The following schools offer entry-level truck driver training programs that are certified to meet the Standards of the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI). The list is believed to be accurate as of the date compiled. However, it is the responsibility of users and prospective students to determine whether a specific course is certified before enrolling in a driver training program. Many schools have a number of truck driving courses. Most schools have only one course certified by PTDI. The status of any school's program may be determined by calling the Professional Truck Driver Institute at 703.647.7015 or sending E-mail to ptdi@truckload.org .

What do you base that on other than scepticism? Do you see a specific school on the list that does that? The term of certification is listed for each school under "Certification Dates", when certified and when the certification will expire.

Many on the list are well established Community Colleges. It is not just that they are not for profit. The state/community pays money IN as a subsidy for the sole purpose of having an institution around to provide education services.

In my research, other sources say PTDI is legit. I don't think you can just blow the list off that easy, unless you have some backup for what you wrote.

 

^So your reply is basically that you are an expert in the field, you know best and others can just ####. Ok, if you want me to butt out, I defer to you to take the lead. Do you see one of the schools your worked for on the list? Was it a PTDI certification process they where going through at your schools? Help a brother out, name schools on the list you believe not to be up to snuff, if you have first hand knowledge of it. Don't be tight lipped if you are going to push others out from speaking up.

I am not trying to "protect" anything and I think you are taking this much more than a little bit too personal. I don't think this list should be viewed as gospel but it is also not just "useless". For one thing it does give a good lising of the community colleges. I think the PTDI list is one tool,and I think a good one at that, in helping students make a good choice for training. One point in what should be comprehensive research in making a final decision.

Better than just trying to figure out what to make of a lot of mud slinging, hearsay, or on the other hand, manufactured positive reviews and testimonials that are otherwise found on the internet.

Maybe we just got off on the wrong foot. I read two sides to what you are saying. On one hand you say the certification process as you know it is very rigorous. A "king mother bear" in your words. A school that goes through a "king mother bear" rigorous process to improve their standards to get on that list seems like a good thing to me, a very good thing indeed.

On the other hand, if some schools then quickly drop that standard, that is a bad thing. However, I would think it is not fair to just lump all the schools who go through a long, rigorous and expensive process to get their programs up to a high standard will just drop them. As we both seem to agree, that does not seem likely to apply to the community colleges for example.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water, the list may not be foolproof and I think your input is valuable not to view any school on the list as good as gold without looking into it more. But I also think we should NOT throw the list and all of the schools out as suspect just because they completed the PTDI process.

IMHO the list is a useful resourse if used properly. I did not see it here, since I thought it was useful, I decided to share.
