There is Roadmaster in Columbus, which I have heard is pretty decent. There are also some tech schools and community colleges that offer school.

I'm currently looking into Roadmasters in Columbus. I've been there once to talk with an admissions representative, and I was very excited about the opportunity. But I spent about five hours tonight researching schools and companies, and I found a troubling amount of threads and stories from disgruntled Roadmaster students. I'm going to have to do quite a bit more research and ask a lot of questions when I go back to talk to the admissions representative again, to be absolutely sure I want to put such a large amount of money towards it. My advice to you would be to do a LOT of research for yourself. I've found out many things about several trucking companies that I was interested in that have definitely made me cross them off my list of potential employers. Don't jump into this blindly. From what I've seen through research, It seems most people that do that end up getting screwed by either the schools or the companies. For example, I got an offer from C.R. England to go to school through them, which they would pay for 100% and then I would pretty much be guaranteed a job with them after graduating. But after researching the company and reading posts on this site and elsewhere, it didn't take me long to realize that they have a reputation in the trucking industry for being scumbags and scandals that screw their employees over. Again, I urge you to thoroughly research all your options so you don't get sucked into the trap that it seems so many others have. Just some friendly advice.

I don't know much about them. The best advice I can give you is to research the school and decide how you feel about paying them your hard earned money. Do a google search on reviews of the company. See how people who went there felt about their experience. Bear in mind that there will always be some negative reviews about any given company, but you want to look for consistencies; multiple people who all had the same issue. You also need to research the program itself and decide if you're getting the most for your money. For example, how many students are in a class, how much class time vs. truck time is there, and one of the most important in my opinion, when you're out driving how many students are there in one truck? Roadmasters for example puts four students in one truck, and rotates them through the drivers seat. That means that the majority of your "driving time" is actually spent sitting in the cab watching someone else drive. The best schools will only have one student per truck, to maximize each students experience. Sage is one of the best schools in my opinion. Also, most truckers advise to stay away from company-sponsored training programs, especially ones that claim to train you for free and then offer you a job as soon as you graduate. The bottom line is do your research. Only you can decide whether a school sounds worth your money or not. Good luck.

I went to Great Lakes in Columbia station near cleveland, no complaints. That's not too far from Ashland. There's also hamrick in medina (expensive) and TDDS in lake Milton .

In Indianapolis they have a free CDL school which also provides a free hotel room and 3 meals a day.

Great Lakes Truck Driving School is where I went. 2 weeks in the class room, then you spend the rest of the time either in the yard or on the road. The instructors are cool and laid back. Where ever you go get your temp permit and DOT physical out the way first. It saves a lot of time, and you don't have to miss any class time.
