So we all make mistakes in life, I made mine, and im over it, been out and free for over a year now. I was led to believe that when you've done your time, you get out and have a second chance.
Scratch that. Finding a job, ANY job has proven to be a monumental task.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of a school trucking school in the dallas texas area that will take an ex felon, preferably a school that will offer job placement assistance.
I have spoken with several schools around and they say that either they flat out won't take felons because their sponsoring company wont hire me, or that sure they'll take me, but they wont be able to offer my any assistance with finding work(but their more than happy to take my money upfront for school...)
    any ideas?

actually, what I would suggest is that you reasearch trucking companies that you wish to work for and see what their policies are for hiring felons. I've seen one or two that would accept a felony as long as it wasn't related to theft. If yours is realted in any way to theft, I'd say that you have about at least 5 years to wait. Also, type in 'felony' into the search engine and see what the results are....... the question has very, very likely been asked and answered more than once.

As you said, we all make mistakes. Keep after it and you'll be sucessful.

Some carriers will consider someone with a felony conviction after 5-10 years have passed. Much of it will depend on the offense. As someone else mentioned, you need to call a few carriers and see what they say. Be up front with them and explain the situation. Some carriers won't hire anyone who has ever had a felony conviction regardless of the time. You won't be able to go into Canada with a felony conviction, but there are many carriers who don't service north of the border.

Thanks everyone for the information, it may very well be that I have a couple more years to wait. Maybe in the meantime I can work the loading docks, or as a dispatcher somewhere.

There is a lot of construction and oil drilling going on around your area. You might check with some of the dump truck or construction companies. Some are more liberal in their acceptance of felony convictions.

    Chances are,

you're still a felon, unless you received a pardon.

Accept that fact, and move forward.

A search of the words "felon trucker",

will yield a ton of results.

    Good Luck !!

I agree with all the comments here. It isnt always the company that has a problem with a felon, its the fact their insurance won't cover you. The companies just cant afford the insurance on a felon or the insurance companies will just flat out tell them we wont provide insurance. Usually there is a 5-7 year clear record wait. If you can make it that far then companies will probably hire you. But as stated it depends on the felony.

    Hope this helps!
