    Hi everybody!

Complete newbie here...been driving non-cdl delivery for the past 8+ years, got tired of handling every freaking piece of product on my truck and decided to get my CDL. I am starting Schneider's training program in Carlisle next week. I actually live in Carlisle, and am not sure whether or not there is any benefit to staying in the hotel (which is what Schneider's recommends) or sleeping at home (5 miles from training center). Any opinions on hotel versus home? Also, what kind of facility does Schneider's have here in Carlisle? Is it just a training facility, or will it also be my "home base"? I will be driving the Northeast, dedicated with a week on, 2 days off.

I've spent a lot of time reading the various threads, and I want to thank you all...it's been most informative! I'm excited about beginning my training, from what I've read, the quality of training seems to be worth the 18 month commitment. I'm a bit concerned about the $$$ I'll be making (or not making!) until I get some experience under my belt. I'm not totally committed to the dedicated position yet.....would I make more just doing solo van? The hometime on the dedicated is appealing, but so is feeding my family!

Totally Agree with your Closing Statement.
I am still researching the Various Companies.
One thing,,. I know there are States and Cities for that matter that do not allow Idleing. I am not in a hurry to try to sleep in a 100 degree sleeper.
OR freeze in one. I posted a thread asking what companies have APU's etc..
    Gonna check them out 1st.
But seems Like Schneider has a top School. I may still go to their school regardless of what Company I drive for. But that is still part of my research as well.
Good Luck, and keep us informed on your choice!

Definitely stay at home during training. You'll be gone from there soon enough.

carlise will be your home base. i do ne reg as well.
idle restrictions screw'em, just show the cops the page in your fmcsa book about required by law to be comfortable in the sleeper, they usually back off after that and many of them know it.
i only idle when i really have to though, when i was in baltimore i idled the whole time i was a sleep.

I went to the Schneider Carlisle training facility years ago. The motel that they used was decent but double occupancy. If your roommate is somebody who snores really loud, you will be more rested sleeping at your own home. Otherwise investigate and invest in top quality ear plugs. You will be glad that you did.
