So, I have a decision to make. I want to a CDL license, and I would like to do it via company paid training.
I live in Minnesota.
With all the research I have done now, I have narrowed down my options to either Schneider National, Heartland Express, or Roehl.
I am conflicted between the three. They all seem like good choices and I am leaning a bit towards Heartland. But, Schneider has tanker options available to me in my area with only 3 months experience and I believe I would like that. Roehl has weekly home time (so they say).
I'm looking for opinions/advice. Please be blunt do not hold back. If there are other options please let me know. Thank You!!!
Schneider VS Heartland Express VS Roehl

Go for Schneider tankers.
Eddiec, RockinChair, Concorde and 2 others Thank this. -
Much better:
get that CDL-A on your own -- via a local community college, or local tech school.
You may well qualify for grants &/or scholarships that eat at least part of the related costs.
In the current dismal CDL job market -- your CDL job prospects will improve markedly...if you:
- get that CDL first, on your own
- get the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat...& also, doubles/triples

To much bad news about heartless anymore…
When I worked at Schneider anytime I took hometime if my truck needed repairs, tell shop, and when you came back it was repaired and ready to go.Smurfin, ducnut, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this. -
When I was talking to the recruiter with Heartland Express they want 15,000 miles with a trainer after three weeks of classroom/yard training. 300 miles a day 5 days a week is at a minimum 10 weeks. So a total of at least 13 weeks at $100/day before getting your CDL and you are released to go solo. Then you owe them 12 months at $0.35/mile or you owe them $6500 (two years ago price).
I agree with @lual on getting your CDL on your own if you can afford it. -
Schneider...period
Heartland isn't called Heartless for nothing. Stay away.
Roehl...I hear mixed things?Chinatown, FullMetalJacket, Smurfin and 4 others Thank this. -
I vote Schneider.snowmantrucking101 Thanks this. -

I work for Schneider. It’s a good company. Lots of options. Not perfect, nothing is. I talk to a lot of drivers here and I never hear them complaining. I make good money at Schneider, but I get very little home time. I’m ok with that and it works for me. Schneider has hundreds of accounts and almost 50,000 trailers.
tscottme, Flat Earth Trucker, FullMetalJacket and 4 others Thank this. -
Roehl if you want to haul dry van, Scheider if you want to pull tankers.
Heartland hasn't turned a profit in quite a while, maybe the last 6 quarters or so IIRC, so I'd steer clear of them even if they were the best option to start with.Flat Earth Trucker, gentleroger and Smurfin Thank this.
