I’m a newbie and looking to start in the tanker division. I have a passport and willing to do the dirty jobs and help others which will bode well for other opportunities if they come about down the road.

I know the disadvantages of tanker, from what I have read, so now I want to know the positives that you can share about being a tanker driver.

    Thanks in advance.

The money for running a chemical tanker is normally better. Schneider doesn't pay what they could but there ok. They do have a good traing program. Get some time in there and you can go anywhere,

You do not usually have to wait hours to unload but if you do you get paid for it.

The places you go to are happy to see you, not like some dry van and reefer places.

You don't spend a lot of time in truckstops. Usually fuel and go.

You get a lot of more regional loads, some out loaded and back empty, but there are also guys that want to go everywhere. They run the system and the potential paydays can be higher.

I drove for over 10 years before I switched to tanks and When I did I wished I had been running them to begin with.

Thankfor your input. I’m seeing more and more advantages to learning and getting tank experience. You can always go to dry van from tanks but not dry to tanks without training and experince.

honestly i dont know about their tanker division but the normal van division treated me like crap so I recommend not going with schneider... they treat you like your property and your not valuable property either... you haul what they say go where they send you take the route jill gives and never call or bother your dbl... they are not interested in keeping the truck good either so... skip them... and if you want tanker... the money is oil and gas out in the field the price of oil will hit atleast 85 dollars by august ... they want 100 by the end of the year per bbl... oh and you can get benefits like health for your fam , 401k, stuff like that too... schnieder doesnt give the perks and benefits. but i will warn you ... the oil field has lousy housing, food, and entertainment... dont bring your fam with you to it

HI, soon to be grad looking to go tanker hazmat...
    Was kicking Schiender around.

Funny the stories you hear. I persons likes is another's dislike.

Any chance you could point in the direction of what disadavantages you have read regarding tankers?

I like what kemo said, "they like seeing you..." I want local or maybe regional. I live in Phoenix. I would hump the tanker to Phoenix, Tucson, general FLAT areas LOL.

I like many just don't want to be gone for weeks at a time.
The industry from what I am seeing is changing to accomidate drivers needs and safety.

    #### I really am leaning toward Schiender but more and more that i read...? But Im sure they're like every other large truck company, good and bad.

If you have 2 years over the road experience Indian River will hire you and they are much better than Schneider .

Schneider wants you to wear a uniform. They want you to wear their own boots. They won't allow intelligent life forms in the truck (dogs/cats). That's a deal breaker for me.
They're gotten extremely anal. I've read many leaving because of that.
