I'm a recent trucking school graduate and have just begun researching and applying to companies. Schneider was very quick in contacting me and arranging a phone interview for tomorrow!

This will be my first and I'm wondering what I should expect as a new cdl holder looking for his first work. Specifically with a Schneider interview.

    Thanks!

I just went through this myself. Its just reveiwing your app to make sure everything is correct. From there its getting the DOT physical and getting orientation scheduled. good luck.

Pretty basic......just emphasize your good points and willingness to learn and be a long term employee. And also, know that whatever the interviewer states could be a little off, such as pay or home time.

that brings up a good point. he did initially state .33 cpm. would it be far fetched to expect this right out of orientation with schneider? USA truck has called me since but I was immediately turned off by their .26 cpm after first talking with schneider.

It would depend on what the position pays. For what I was hired for I'll start at .29cpm and at 6 months jump to .33 cpm.

When you applied, what did you apply for? Was it online application?

It was online and I discussed regional with the recruiter.

Should I mention the recruiter that frequently visits the school I graduated with and maybe try to have my application looked at in that sort of context if possible?

Nah. You should have listed on the app who refered you. At least it was on mine. Like I said above, its really just to make sure the info is correct before its sent to HireRight for backround stuff. As long as its clean , you should be in orientation next week. I think this week would really be pushing it.

Dont sweat it. They make it easy for us.

If you have a phone interview it is not like a regular job interview, Schneider will review your application to make sure all info is correct, then hire right is contacted and runs the checks and gets back with schneider. If anything on the application is verified as wrong then schneider will more than likely turn you down. Thats the purpose of the interview to give you the opputunity to correct any mistakes. After the hire right comes back they will then schedule a drug screen which includes both urine and hair and a DOT physical. Then they schedule orientation.

Don't jump at the first job offered your way. When I graduated truck driving school I asked my instructor for a list of companies that recruited at that school, and then I went to them in person. Most importantly you need to get your foot in the door and then get as much experience as you can. I trained with Werner (the big blue screw) but as soon as I became a certified driver I left the company. The first year was rough for me financially and personally (getting use to being OTR), but now that I'm over the hump I'm looking forward to a better future. Good luck.
