schneider is the worst.

i have i yr. under my belt.the three months with schneider national.schneider oc are great.good mainte.. dbl and policies i grade d-.marco sys. was so cumbersome and alot unnecessary.alot of there policies cause drivers to lose money.not being able to drive ohio and indy turnpike.they told me one thing in orentation and dbl something else.their computer says i was over 10,11,14 hr. numerious times.yet there on trainers checked my book.no problems.yet dbl held it against me.even said i did not turn in a day documentation. i check paper work.i scanned paperwork at carlise where dbl was.there trailers where a real trip.tring to move trailer tandem was a mess.the handle would not say out or was missing.many more problems take to long to write.

 

I just was in Coachella, CA and a pumpkin driver sat all day with his window down, while everyone else i noticed idled or were hooked up to idle air.. I wouldnt do it even if they offered to split the fuel savings in half with me... At a gal an hr. which im sure there burning less.. Its and unforgiveable way to do you... Like that..

 

Coachella: Yikes! Must've been over 100 degrees. No way I would let any company's idle policy prevent me from being comfortable and, in return, well-rested and safe to run. He'll learn.

 

Coachella and south central CA in general is such a beautiful place. I remember being jealous of the dock workers that get to live there.

 

Well I saw this post and couldn't resist gettin a shot in on Schneider. If you loved your time in the military and still want to work for a company that runs like the military, you will love Schneider National. My brother and I teamed with them for 6 months and that was about all we could take of that place. They had terrible dispatchers, long waits on the phone, ###### trailers, and some of the most quirky rules I have ever come across in this industry. I am an independant man and they got the idea that they "owned" us. That was their first and last mistake...oh well my brother got a free CDL out of it.

 

Interesting how your experience and my experience are completely and totally opposite from each other.

At the end of the day, facts are facts, You hit another truck. Along with that, your honesty made you report something that...in all reality, didn't need to be reported if the other driver didn't have a problem. Sure, SNI wants you to report everything, but...what was the point of reporting outside of saying "hey...I cant drive this truck without hitting something, spank me"

If you knew how the trucking world works...you wouldn't be complaining about something that trucking companies do regularly when their drivers hit something.

Correction...YOUR dbl treated YOU with no respect. Or that is how you percieved it. Plus on top of that, you let them and maintenance walk all over you.
Their policy is to plug in the truck if its colder than 30...if possible. if its colder than 10, then you can idle it. Your DBL wanted you to follow company policy. Something that you should have looked into when applying to work for them, because that policy hasn't changed.

Also, if yo pay attention to the QC after you start the truck, it takes about five minutes before the QC gives you that message saying you will get dinged for idle. So...if for some odd reason you seem to get cold in the sleeper (ie...you should have pre heated the sleeper before stopping, close the curtains and crank the webasto up when stopped to keep the heat contained in the sleeper berth)...then you could have gone and started thet ruck and let it run for a few minutes to warm it back up again.

I regularly idle my truck for ten hours a day in the winter (dedicated run) and all I do is send in a QC message stating how long i Idled and I never get dinged for it at all.

Also, most trucks have the Webastos installed so you get heat in the winter. What happened to that?

As far as the QC messing up. They don't go in to retrieve the data. Its automatically sent in throughout the daily use of the truck. If yours is being faulty, then the DBL should correct it, or you should get a replacement one at a OC shop. You didn't mention the steps you took to fix this.

 

Schnieder is one of the most difficult I've ever worked for. If you flick your cigarette out the window and it bounces off the door or the running board --- that's an accident! Biggest problem with SNI is that all of their equipment is falling apart, tractors, and especially the trailers.

QualComm trick: press down 2 times (screen shows your 6-digit unit number), key in your 6-digit unit number and press ENTER (it beeps, but nothing displays). Press down 4 times (screen asks if you want to restart), press Y and ENTER. QualComm will take about 30 seconds to reset, then your idle counter will start running backwards... yes! idle time will actually start decreasing as you idle. Keep and eye on it, after about 20 minutes (some units vary, it could be 30 or 40 minutes) it will start going back up, so you will have to re-key the above trick.

This works on any QualComm, any company, even on the nice full screen models (you just ignore whats on the screen, and remember, down 2, key id, down 4 press Y).

 

I hope you've made it out of the pumpkin patch by now. Forget the "stories" they tell you in orientation, your DBL will make you or break you. Carslisle has the best shop, the cleanest showers, and the best food. Friday nights they've got an old cajun cook that comes in just to make fried catfish and hush puppies. Even though I left SNI years ago, I've been known to park my truck down the street, put on my old Schnieder Cap, grab the SNI coffee mug, and walk in there for dinner and a shower.
