Hello all, I am new to this whole website. I am grateful to have found it for a lot of the forum posts have helped steer me in the right direction and not get screwed by some trucking companies.

With that said, I am currently searching for more information on Schlumberger Oil Services. I have an interview at a hiring event on the 12th, this Wednesday, and it is through Elwood Staffing (I've read a mix of reviews about this agency).

I am in Alabama and they say that Schlumberger pays for the flight out for fifteen days and then flies you back to your home for six days off.

84 hours a week at 17 an hour plus the overtime 25.50

Seems like a good deal for someone that is a military veteran and doesn't mind living in crappy conditions to make good money.

However, my problem lies in the fact that I have only a Class A CDL Permit. Schlumberger supposedly will hire me as long as I have a permit, but most places I see require the Class A license. I have been looking at schools for my CDL and have found one at a community college close to me, but it doesn't start another class until october 22nd. Also, I was told Schlumberger would pay for me to get my license. I, of course, would get the proper endorsements for the oilfield, too.

Am I walking into getting screwed? Anyone been in my shoes with getting hired on as a Class A CDL Permit holder?

I know this isn’t what you wanna hear but I can’t say how it is now but when I tried to get on in 2012 it did work with just the permit. But to be honest now that I have the license if they will truly fly you back and forth then I may choose them instead of Halliburton

The offer is legitimate. More than likely a frac hand position? If so, they need your back and want the discipline you aquired in the military. 95% of your hours will be on a well site, travelling to and from the site in a pickup. Once you have your cdl, you will still only be driving a truck from one well site to the next one. Then you'll go back to travelling in a pickup and working on the pad. Its a good starting position in the oilfield and Schlumberger is a top company. I would not discourage you from taking that job.

They want you to have or be able to get a cdl. But Id bet the amount of time you spend running a truck will be next to zero unless you're specifically hiring on as a driver.

Your ### is gonna be livin in a man camp, just fyi and the averge iq of oil field hands isnt what I would call "genius level".

Your travel time comes out of your days off. May not matter depending on how your flights work out.

Same could be said for the average steering wheel holder.

Well, I don't mind that at the moment. I expected that the travel time would eat into the 6 days off. I just don't want to walk into this job expecting a fat check and get a malnourished one.

I don't want to get screwed by another agency and not get what was promised. But I guess i won't know exactly what Schlumberger is really going to give me until tomorrow when I go to this hiring event.

Would y'all suggest that I somehow get my CDL? I know I need a school or else companies won't really even look at you. But as someone with just a Class A Permit, I won't get as much money, obviously, as someone with a Class A License. They talk about how they will help me get my CDL or whatever, but for those that have dealt with this type of thing, would I be better off getting it on my own and THEN applying again?

I don't think it matters. Ellwood makes money by supplying warm bodies, if they didn't think Schlumberger would hire you they wouldn't be sending you to this event. Oil field hiring events are cattle calls, if for some reason you didn't get an offer tomorrow, you could go to another event next week, talk to the same guy and he wouldn't remember you.

I worked 3rd party moving schlumberger's equipment around for just shy of 2 years. They will get you your cdl but you won't be doing a whole lot of driving. They hire out to 3rd party companies to transport most of their equipment to and from site.

Top notch 401k and bennies from what I gathered talking to SLB guys on fracs and in the yard. Tons of bonuses on top of OT. Cement side had a bonus for every well cemented and I wanna say frac got a bonus for every stage in the frac they completed. Yes they will fly back home after your tour
