Satellite TV, Local Channels, meaning networks: ABC, CBS and NBC.
Not necessarily from my home or even from the particular area I am in. Just from whatever city, I don't care, as long as I get the network.
Spefifically, I want to be able to have an in-motion satellite system to record the shows I want to watch but most of the shows are on the 3 above mentioned networks.
The problem as I see it is both of the major sat TV services, (Direct and Dish) tell you;
(problem 1) for a mobile system they do not provide the 3 networks and you have to use a local antenna. Well that is 100% not going to work for several reasons.
(Problem 2) If I just tell them it is for another room in my house (because of the way they program the receiver) it will only receive any channels when I am geographically within a few hundred miles of my house.
So... how do you guys solve this problem?

Assuming your TV has a built-in tuner:
Get an HD antenna to receive local OTA channels.

"IN MOTION" you said. That blows out even the intermittent possibility of a local OTA antenna. There are two ways to do what you are asking.
DirecTV - fill out the mobile waver application for "DNS" (distant network service) for travelers. This will allow you to choose either the New York or the Los Angeles networks (ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, etc) to be your default for networks. (the details are here: DIRECTV for Travelers | TV for Cars & RVs | Watch DIRECTV on the go)
Dish Network - you would need to call customer service and tell them what zip code or city that you are near. They then enable the local networks on your box for that area. This works fine for when stopping for the night, but would not be practical for "in motion" because you would need to call again every 100 miles.
Call me (if you want) by clicking the link in my signature since putting in motion or stationary satellite TV on trucks is one of the things we do. (mods - I was just answering a question, lol.)RoadCall and HaulinCars Thank this. -

Calling in to Dish every hundred miles or so sure isn't going to work, I did almost 700 today... I would use up all my Verizon unlimited minutes just on calling the Dish people! LOL..
Your signature did not show up but I recognize Diesel Boss. I have looked at your multiple camera "dash cam" systems so Ill call but who do I ask for, (who made this post)?Dieselboss Thanks this. -
ON DEMAND is another option.
All 4 majors have apps. Just need a roku or Amazon or apple and your dtv login credentials. Watch the shows whenever you want and not have to worry about recording them.
You could also use your laptop and their websights. And possibly stream laptop to TV.
Just need internet. -
DirecTV does NOT do HD on the mobile units yet. They did announce that they are working on converting their satellites to that band, but I don't know when. Dish Network DOES broadcast in the correct band for HD. (It's like if you could mash the two companies together you'd have the perfect product. But then they would have a monopoly and triple the prices.)HaulinCars Thanks this. -
