Ok drivers I have a brain teaser to ask the old timers. I am discussing old truck stops with my friends and we came up with the Sapp Bros. Truck Stop in Clearfield, Pa. I believe that it originally was a Union 76, possibly a Pure Oil Truck Stop before that, then taken over by Truckstops of America before it became a Sapps. If anyone knows the right answer I would really appreciate it because after 45 years out here I can not remember all the old stops. Thank you gentlemen and ladies.

    I'm going to guess a 76.

Cut him some slack. 45 years of trucking is approximately 135 in human years.

Park at the Sapp bros and eat and drink at the hotel pub next door. Then in the morning go inside the Sapp Bros and buy a cup of coffee since you stayed at their place the night before.

I guess you already have the answer. (I did not open the links yet) But as far back as the 80's i remember it always being Sapp brothers. (Think there was also a burns brothers) i dont remember it ever being a 76 although the might have been a franchise.

Back in the 70's I used to run a lot of Ohio from NJ across I-80 and I remember stopping in Barkeyville, Clearfield, Bookville etc. and while most I remember as TA's this one in Clearfield I stopped at but could not remember if it made the transition to a TA or Sapps or if it stayed a 76 for awhile. And then I repeated myself asking the question twice which means I'm probably losing my mind. I then saw a packet of matches for sale on Ebay with Clearfield 76 on them and that seems to have answered my question. Thanks for everyones help.

    I recall clearfield.

But to ask me to keep up the chain of the old 76's gone by? I don't have that kind of recall. So many have been essentially destroyed.

Clearfield for me was not a real common stop. It was for storm purposes when required.

    Trucker61016 Thanks this.
