Was at the local truck salvage yard and they have a 1990 Ti-Brook 39' frameless end dump sitting there that was in a very minor accident. The guy said they could sell it but it would be a salvage title, and that to get it licensed it would probably have to be repaired by a certified shop and reinspected by the state. Is that what has to be done? What are the drawbacks to a salvage title? I think it could be repaired for under $1000. He wants around $7500 but he thought they could come down some because it's been sitting there a while...

CK with state you live in, most have a law off. that has to sign off on all repairs after that you can buy a tag but rebuilt will sill be on papers so next buyer will know it was a total loss at one time?
-
Check with Maine. You can title it there. Not sure what there laws are on that but they are pretty lenient.
-
Offer $5k and see what happens. If he bites, the get it fixed right, inspected and apply for a title.

Here in CT its a nightmare,
First u have to take before pictures. Then a list and receipts of all parts used and the shop repair invoice if you don't fix it your self. That's all pretty easy now it gets fun. Call DMV and schedule a salvage inspection have it towed to the motor vehicle department they say. They inspect the repairs and everything else on it and typically fail it for something very minor. Like a light bulb being out , If you pass then you can register it and will receive a rebuilt title. But CT sucks a lot of states are a lot easier.
Best of luck -
Why would you want to fool with it, it's a 25 year old trailer.
-
The prices on new trailers are out of sight. A 15 year old dump can fetch $20,000. If he is inexperienced a rollover would be cheaper with an old trailer. He doesn't have the green or credit for a newer trailer? I have a 2000 fl. spec. that is in super condition. I am going to ask $25k for it. Guys buy trucks that are 20 to 25 years old and they have way more parts to fail. It is all in your perspective.

I was told by my grampa in a truck stop bar. Arkansas doesn't even have a salvage title.
I know someone that bought a Mack ch I believe that had been a total. It was a log truck that had been laid over. It wasn't bad, only had 50/60k on the odometer. It came with a clean title. -
^^^ maybe it didn't go through an insurance company.
