Got me a load going to Casa Grande AZ from south side of SLC. Load pays 709 miles.

Shortest route I can find shows 725 miles via i15 to US89 to i17 to i10. I've never been down US89 on that stretch. Is that a good route as in low traffic/congestion? I know the Grand Canyon is down that way.

Next best route is 769 miles taking i15 to i515 in Las Vegas to i11 to 40 to us93 to PHX and i10 west.

My main concern is about US89. Is that a major tourist route? Large hills, long pulls etc. Would the LV be better even though more miles?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Lots of trucks use 89. @Dave_in_AZ might give you more info.

    How heavy are you?

If you're over 30K pounds in the box, go through Vegas.

89 is a little hillier, not much, cause 93 is very hilly as well.

    I take 89 mostly.

Ok. I think ld is gonna be around 38k. I was more concerned about congestion. Tourists etc. Losing time vs people vs terrain. I can deal with terrain. I hate driving tourist routes...lol

Depends what day and what time. I drive early. Take 15 down to the UT 20 ( Panguitch ). Takes you over the hill to 89. Now the first 60 or 70 miles of that on 89, there are one or two deer in that valley.

both routes are about the same time .even know vegas is like 70 miles longer. i usually take 89 when i wanna get off the interstate. i just wouldnt run it at night. because when u leave i15 in utah and pickup utah20 or whatever highway that is... its deer city out there...yes 89 is kind of touristy thru kanaab but it really is a short part of the trip...but way less traffic and stress than running i15 to 93..in my opinion.

NV has very good highways. Yet, on a two way highway there is no avoiding some four wheelers in front (tourists or not). Take your time, keep the distance no matter the speed and it will be fine. The thought that it will end eventually will keep you in peace.

UT-20 is very steep and winding down to US-89 to the point I would almost consider cutting over on I-70 to 89 if I was heavy and going that way to Phoenix. It's definitely the more scenic route.

Ut20 is 8 percent grade for a couple miles.. I would hardly call it steep. It is a good size Mountain but nothing that can't be handled.. There's guys pulling 100k thru there everyday
