I have a question about safe miles? I know many companies talk about safe miles and I had a question about what happens to a driver that gets into an accident, and are not at fault, do they lose there safe miles? I ask this because a friend of mine who drives was hit by a car that crossed over two lanes and hit him it the fuel tank. Does this mean he no longer has a clean safe miles record because someone else hit him? So what I am really asking is that if you are in an accident that is in no way your fault such as someone running a red light or running into the back of you etc. does that make you lose your safe miles? I know companies such as wal-mart reward their drivers for safe miles with great benefits like wal-mart buying whatever truck their drivers who reach 3 million safe miles. Any information to clear this up would be great.

That's a good question, because I've known people who had a couple "not at fault accidents" and were dropped by their insurance. Insurance companies believe some people are accident prone.

I have 1.2 million accident-free miles to my name, which means no accidents or incidents for which I was responsible. Two of my trucks were hit in truck stops while I was parked. I did not "lose" my "safe" miles -- I still have the 1.2 million miles. You can't control what the other guy does.
Got more info/a link to that Wal-Mart story? -
I don't have a link but if you check out the DAC reports on wal-mart on here there are some more information about it you can also look it ip on you tube just type in Wal-Mart three million mile trucks.ac120 Thanks this. -
I think you'll find that Wal-Mart doesn't give the truck to the driver. He/she gets to spec it and use it exclusively, but it's not his/hers to keep. It remains a Wal-Mart truck.
JB Hunt used to give $5,000 for one million safe miles, $10,000 for two million, and $20,000 for three million:

My carrier gave out jackets and ATA wall plaques (they'd misspell your name on the awards at no extra charge; the carrier's name on the back of the jacket was huge, the driver's name was small. I never saw anybody wearing one). You do the miles for yourself, really. Not that I'd turn down 5-10-20 K. -
if the auto crossed over into his lane and struck him...its a NON PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT AND DOT REPORTABLE..How it effect his safe driving record is up to the company he drives for..I have 3.5 million miles of safe driving under my belt and i have one incident and that was a tire shredded off a boat trailer and took out my mirror..it didnt effect my safe miles.. this should not effect his safe miles because it was not his fault but you know how companies are these days...have him check his DAC and Check with the DOT where the accident happened and ask them if it was Preventable

if you guys want to read about company profiles and see how they are rated go to
www.safersys.org go to fmcsa search and click on company snapshot then type in the company name and see their DOT record...hope this helps -
Non-preventable do not count against your safe driving record.

I knew that about Wal-Mart I was just saying it was the drivers truck because they would the only ones ti be driving it and the spec it out so its basically their s they just don't make the payments on it but that's still a great benefit for a driver to receive for being safe. Also the driver I was talking about is an O/O I was just wondering if it would affect him if he ever decides t work for aother company. But thanks for all the information on this it has given me the answers I was looking for.
