Who makes the highest quality aftermarket rebuild parts for a DD3 (1995) S60 Detroit? I am considering using them because cylinder kits are on back order for my engine, and don't know how long before they come in. Any feedback is wanted.

My vote goes to Mahle, then FP, which is what I used. Only because Mahle was on backorder due to their computers while they were acquiring Clevite bearing. All the more reason to use Mahle. Considering they make original DD pistons. They’ve all been around longer than DD. Federal Mogul ( FP Diesel ) does a lot for the Military. Tried and True. Quality parts. OEM is over rated as far as being superior. The biggest difference seems to be gasket quality. The FP gaskets were pretty good. I’ve heard some kits gaskets are cut wrong, or overall made cheap. I’ve had original DD head gaskets blow at 540k once. And 825k twice. I doubt they’re any better. An aftermarket kit costs almost 1/3 less when you add bearings to the OEM. I hear bad things about aftermarket heads. Surely wouldn’t use aftermarket rocker assembly. Rather stick with reliabilt DD injectors. But the Aftermarket inframe kits have proven themselves. You can research both, read all about the head gasket design, and latest greatest cooler piston designs, and the coatings etc. Any major manufacturers not going to put their name on junk. It’s a huge market. Not just here, but around the world. Mahle has been a Leader in piston design. That’s why DD uses them.

BoxCarKidd and nikmirbre Thank this. -
I've never heard of either. Only heard if Interstate McBee, and that they used to make injectors for Detroit. I noticed Interstate McBee charges a little more-at least for a head.

I’ve heard good things about Mcbee. Not sure if they actually make anything. I delivered some original Cummins parts to a Mcbee Distributor. They had parts and kits from everywhere. It’s hard to tell where any of the parts come from anymore. Everyone has factories overseas.

You can look them up. FP Diesel hasn’t been around very long. but Federal Mogul’s been in business over 100 yrs. Mahle’s been around at least 75 yrs. Cutting edge piston design. Also big on turbo design.

Thanks for the replies. I will start looking into all of the companies. Now if I could get negative feedback. I also want to know who to stay away from.
