Just curious, how feasible is it for american o/o's to use a ryder full maintenance lease as opposed to a purchase or lease to own program? I know it would not really work for a high mileage scenario, but specifically for short haul and specialized work. The reason I ask is that up here, I find it considerably cheaper for my city trucks as they include insurance, plates, sub-units and maintenance. Anyone have some experience with this?

We have two trucks with a lease program including maintenance. It is all city work that we do. I found it a lot better with the maintenance program. If you have a break down they have a tow truck pretty quick and if you need a replacement truck is there too. I have been dealing with them about 6 years and have nothing to say bad about them. There is another company that you can compare with which is Penskey.

My employer leases from both Ryder and Penske. My dispatcher told me that Ryder fuel costs 15 cents more per gallon than Flying J.

I've heard it's possible to sign just a maintenance contract with both Penske and Ryder. I believe the cost is in the neighborhood of .05-.06 per mile.
I have had experience with both of them with a former company. Service calls are similar. The usually have someone out to you within 2-4 hours. If they can't repair you roadside, they locate a rental (sub) unit.
The maintenance contract includes general parts and labor for PM's and minor repair jobs. Some even include tire failure. I suppose the more you include in the contract, the more you will pay. Overall, it's not that bad a deal if you can afford it.
I'm currently subscribed to Volvo Action Service for $99 a year. Kind of like AAA for big trucks. If I need to be towed, it's just a $40 deductible. If my unit goes down, they will locate a sub. They also will pay for any repairs for those breakdowns, but of course you pay them back. Not a bad deal at all. -
just wondering if anybody was leasing from them long term...seems like it may be a better deal than the fleece-lease....also if you lease from them do you have to run under your own authority or can you still run for a company as a contractor? Just curious....any and all comments would be appreciated!!

it's expensive like 250 a day plus mileage i guy i knew got wrecked and the insurance co paid for it a daycab for local work 300 miles a day average for a month and a half it was close to 11,000 bucks and that doesn't include fuel
-
The $250 per day may be true if one is leasing on a per day basis. However, when a long term lease is the deal, the payments are more in line with a regular truck payment. I don't know the details of a long term lease.
The reason for my statement is this: a company I drove for many years ago leased one day cab tractor from Ryder. The companies revenue for the loads pulled would not have sustained a $250 per day rental fee. But it would support a regular monthly truck payment. -
last I heard they were also requiring you to lease it for 6 years. and that's too long. We leased all our day cabs from them but owned our sleeper trucks
-
Silly question really. I may rent a tractor and a trailer from Ryder for the day. Just moving some empty totes. Ryder has that online reservation discount going on. It looks like you can get a tandem axle tractor and a dry van for 80.00 for the day.
What do they charge beyond the rental rate in fees?
Does the renter need insurance?

Has anyone here ever looked at renting a truck? Maby for 1-3 months.
I know they can offer a full service lease. I was wondering what it costs to get started and what kind of daily/weekly/monthly payment is involved?
