if you run under someone else`s authority,it can be done several ways. They can get the insurance and take it out of your settlement.Since you run under their name and numbers, you should be good on the numbers but you should already have a dot number. Most guys I know like to get their own tags. Some companies provide tags. You do need a EIN

Every carrier is different, there is no one size fits all. For my trucks I pay everything up front and do not buy anything from the carrier. That's for my personal ease of paperwork and accounting.

You need to start with getting independent on insurance and plates.

YOU don't need cargo insurance but will need bobtail and the other stuff.

Don't ever depend on them for insurance or plates.

Then you need to get a contract with the authority to spell out what is what and who does what. Read it, have someone else (lawyer) read it and then sign it if you agree with it. Never blindly sign it and never work for anyone without having your own copy before you sign it to be checked.

Then you need to get the signs put in with their numbers and start making money.

Here is the deal. I’m having a guy run under my authority. He will get own insurance, plates and we make a agreement and he puts his company name with my numbers on truck?

If he is leasing on to your company he puts YOUR company name and US DOT number on the truck "operated by Jasonar15 Inc" or simply "Jasonar15 Inc" is the correct way per the regulations.

"leased to Jasonar15 Inc" is wrong and can get him a ticket. His company name doesn't need to be on the truck. Guys do that out of pride but it's foolish because it creates confusion and might cause the DOT to wave you around back so they can have a closer look to sort it out.

Whether he pays for any or all of that doesn't matter. He's leasing to your company. You need to read the regulations they are clear on this.

Yes. The plates and insurance OTHER THAN cargo insurance is his problem, not yours. He has to maintain it, and provide proof of it to you. Plates and his insurance do not have to be in your authority's name.

    I refer to Rollin's post.
