Has anyone heard of this or done this? Would it harm any of the mechanical parts of your system? Deterioration of rubber on your wipers to be specific.
Rubbing alcohol in your washier fluid to help with ice build-up on windshield wipers.

Mikeeee -
I been doing it for years in my personal cars and work truck.
Never had a issue.
I do it when I wake up and realize I have no washer fluid and need to prevent freezing of water. -
Yep done it and it works good ... in time though it will deteriorate the rubber hoses that goes to the wipers. But as far as does it work the answer is yes.

What would be the time line on such?
In 50+ yrs Ive never seen such a thing,"the mix" has been selling at Walmarts for over 20 yrs known as a Winter Solution. Its nothing more then alcohol at 6X the cost. The other **chemicals** in regular washer fluid are what eat up the hoses and have been for years.
Ya'll mix it pretty stout,2 bottles of alcohol per gallon
Even then(if its cold enough) it will still freeze the solution enough
to turn it to slush when it hit the windshield.
Be Safe,Not Stupid!
**(The reason its used in Meth Labs for mfg and not sold to minors)

Not sure how isopropyl alcohol reacts with the hoses and pump but I've seen car dealers mix their own washer solvent and the concentrate is labeled ethanol, that's drinking alcohol.
Denatured alcohol is ethanol mixed with something poisonous and a lot cheaper. No tax. -
Why not just use windshield wiper wash that's already made for it? its not that expensive.
celticwolf Thanks this. -
Cause the premix isn't worth the inflated
price. Home brew works!07-379Pete Thanks this.
