Hi everyone, I'm looking to swap out a Rto 15 speed with a Rtoo 14613 double over tranny. .62 final drive I have 3.55 rears with 24.5 tall rubber. I know it will be long legged. I need to know the lower drive ratios in the trans reverse included and if anyone knows the dimensions on the tranny? I much changing will I need to do? It's in a 85 pete 359. I'm in between buying a Rtlo 16713a trans or the Rtoo 14613 double over. I will have to cruise around in 12th gear with the double over until about 75 mph will this cause any problems? I haul light, any input is helpful thank you

I suppose the RTLO 16713a would be the better transmission choice for noise purposes, as well as, shifting smoothness. The RTLO has a final drive of .73 which would put me at 74 mph @ 1500 rpm which isn't horrible. Plus from what I gather this tranny will run cooler at those numbers. I just need to know about the switch between that and the RTO 15 speed. I don't have a slip yoke, does anyone know where I can find prices for a slip yoke for the extra inch the RTLO has over the RTO?

Personally I would go with the RTLO 16713A. I had the gears flipped around in a RTO 14613 about ten years ago and it was so noisy in double over I couldn't stand to use that gear. By my calculations with the RTOO 14613 at 1500 RPM you would be running 86 mph.

Yea which would be cool but like u said the noise would be a factor. With the Rtlo 16713 I would be at 74 mph @ 1500. Not so bad right?

Lol.. Yea it should be alright 75-80 mph should be fine. I need to find some info on the dimensions of the Rtlo. I think it's like an inch longer I'm probably gonna need a slip yoke which I don't have. If anyone knows where to go to find prices it would help

An RTOO is actually a triple overdrive. I know everybody calls it a double overdrive. I didn't believe the man when he told me that until he showed me some old Eaton Roadranger literature showing the ratios. Many years ago I had an RTOO14613 built to replace a 14609. I was very long legged. It had some advantages, but it was a little noisy. Years later I had a good mechanic go through it and put a bearing kits in it just because. 58000 miles later a bearing went down and trashed 19 gears total. was going to cost a fortune to rebild it. I was told parts are very scarce. I went with a RTLO16718 and lost some topend but overall it was a good upgrade. That 16718 is a helluva lot tougher transmission. The RTLO went in with no driveshaft changes other than maybe a yolk.

The 15 speed and the RTLO 13 speed are both 33.1 inches long according to the specs on roadranger.com so it should be an easy swap.

Ok cool that's what I have been finding too. It would be nice for that to match up for me. I was gonna do the clutch resurface the fly wheel and change the rear main seal since I'm already gonna be right there. It seems like the shift knob is the only change I would need to make on the shifter. Thanks for your help I'll keep you posted if anyone has more to add please do.
And for the prior post I realize it's a triple over it's just an ole' trucker term for the Rtoo "double over".
I'm planning the job for over x-Mas so I do have time for more research. -
Didn't some of the Spicer twin sticks (like the 6 X 4) have double O/D as well?
