I have a 2016 Freightliner cascadia Detroit engine. I'm sitting here idling (a couple hours) and all of a sudden my rpms jumped from 800 to 1200. And it got a little rough. Should I be concerned? Is this normal? How big of a problem could this be? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it has the Auto Elevate parameter set, it allows the truck to automatically do a Regen while idling. Otherwise you would get a bunch of warning lights and have to initiate a Regen manually.

Whew! Thanks! I had an idea it may have been doing a regen. But since I didn't see the normal regen stuff light up I got concerned

Yes, most engines have some sort of anti-idling strategy to keep the emissions down. Like mentioned, it could have been doing a regen or even just changing air flow strategy through egr valve and turbo actuator changes. They can really change how the engine sounds and even feels.

These EPA trucks don't like to idle, not good for the system.

I'm driving a 2017 Detroit it has Optimized Idle option. It starts the engine for heat or A/C or battery voltage or engine oil temperature.

It will also automatically do a parked regeneration. I have noticed at about 6 hours Idle time it will regen. So usually it does one or two times during a 34 hour reset. If I'm just taking usual 10 hour break not needed. It only take about 20 minutes to Regen vs older trucks taking 45 minutes.

Oh i dont know. Because its July and hotter than Hades. What kind of a retarded question is that? Why is your house air conditioned? An equally stupid question

Yes my 16 cascadia will do an auto regen, usually lasts 10 to 15 minutes. It does about every 8 hours. And if u keep idling like i have been idling since friday afternoon sitting stuck here at truck stop i have had to do a manual regen where the regen light comes on and u have to push the button. If u ever see that regen light flashing and blinking it means u need to do regen ASAP .
