Hello everyone. Just wanted to share with you all something that I spotted today at Walmart. Honestly I waited for so long for Shell to finally bring in the market let's say a synthetic oil T6 15w40 not the 5w40 that we all know about. Only that is a new product and Walmart had only 5 jugs of 1 gal. priced at 22$. Really want to see this T6 in 15w40 more available in the future and a convenient price like around 18-20$. for gal. I do have a 04 ACCERT C15 which really likes Rotella T5 15w40 really good fuel mileage truck has 1.2 million miles no overhaul yet.

Order it from Walmart, they will ship it to the store and hold it for you.

you pay $22 a gallon and you want it to be $18?

I had to get a gallon at TSC, $28 a gallon for t6, walmart was out. I ordered two cases because I use it in every vehicle except the prius.

Why would you want less oil flow when cold that's the big benefit of the 5w oils.

You don't have a high shear application so any VI loss is minimal anyway.

The first number is startup, when parts are "dry" it'll affect it the most.... This is also where the majority of engine wear comes from. You WANT quick oil flow to moving parts, not thick oil.

The second number is the running/hot viscosity.. The "40"

The two viscosity measurements are from tests taken at their respective temperatures, they are not tested the same temp and this confuses most people.

Aren't you afraid to switch to synthetic now? I am afraid your engine will develop some leaks

Sounds like 22$ gallon is a very good price. Shell has a lot of good deals with rebates. I remember they had like 5$ off the 22$ so like 17-18$ for T6 will be nice.

Maybe switching will not be the greatest idea. Can't guess what I will experience if I do the switch to T6 but as long as viscosity is 15w40 I dont feel worried that I can hurt the engine. I do understand your point that this can create leaks and I do realize that T6 will have a better additive package then T4 or T5.

You are totally correct about your knowledge of the cold flow I dont disagree. For some or others this oil performance works really great with fresh rebuild or newer engines. My CAT is 1.2 million miles with no rebuild yet. If you have or had an older engine like mine you wouldn't try anything lower then 15w40. Just my opinion some owners can disagree. I will never risk to run my CAT with oil lower then 15w40. I just wanted to share that SHELL had been working on T6 to be available in 15w40. That surprised me a lot. Just have to wait when will be more available.
