So I’ve been truck driving for 1 year now and I’m tempted to buy a truck and work at land star. I have some money saved up to make a nice down payment on a truck so after just a few years I won’t have to worry about making monthly payments on it. My total operation costs for the first 2 years will be $1.76 per mile, after my truck payments are over then it will go down to $1.43 per mile. How is landstars rates and can I still make some good money with a operating cost of $1.43 per mile. That’s the costs for everything, including taxes ect

A dollar seventy five is pretty high, what are you buying new? And/or incorporating home life expenses?

Fuel, maintenance, insurance, permits, tolls, supplies, food, and taxes. I rounded up pretty high because I rather prepare for the worst then prepare for the best lol

    6MPG at $3.00 a gallon = .50
In reality I’ll probably get 8MPG and at $2.70 or less per gallon but who knows when prices will skyrocket ect

I bassed my math on 100,000 mile work year ...... per mile costs

    Fuel 0.50
    Taxes 0.50
    Maintenance 0.15
    Insurance 0.10
    Permits 0.05
    Tolls 0.05
    Supplies 0.05
    Food 0.06

    = $1.46 a mile

I've talked with drivers working for Landstar.
Will you be pulling their trailer or yours? You'll be leased onto them running under their authority.?
Last I heard they take about 25% of your gross. You could do alot better applying for your own MC# and getting your own authority.
Is this a Lease Purchase deal through them? If so, read the fine print and tread very carefully.

No, I have over a $100,000 saved up in the bank so I’m going to buy my own truck and trailer. I get 73% of the revenue and the land star takes 27%

Well, I sure wish you the best. Will you be pulling a van or Flatbed.
I've trip leased a few times with them, always treated me fair. And always paid up.
    Good Luck with them!!

I’m 24 years old, no girlfriend/wife or kids. At age 21 I became one of the youngest GMs in the country and ran a restaurant in Dallas Texas. Though, I’m a dreamer and I like to build and create things. I didn’t want to stay at a job that I would eventually just settle down with. So I quit a year ago and got into truck driving. Got rid of all my bills and I’ve just been saving, saving and saving. My ultimate goal is to have a small trucking company, open up 5 restaurants and then potentially hotels/apartments as well. I also have all of other ideas that I would like to try but I’m trying to keep things realsisc. Lol
