I always have headlights on til I get close enough to where I know folks in the house see them. lot's of times I see keep headlights on, then they stay on. if you turn them off too early & the scale house does not see them, how would they know they work? especially if there is a lot of trucks close together & concentration on the one of the trucks in front of you may not notice yours was on before you turn them off. the all the scale houses I see have tinted windows. ever notice, you cannot see inside well at all? so I doubt the lights have a glare on them.
BUMBACLADWAR Thanks this. -

i don't think the scales even worry about lights anymore. lotsa trucks rolling down the road with one headlight or non functioning clearance lights.
and i don't think the scale even considers a truck would actually be driving at night with no headlights.
i turn em off where ever i'm at on the exit ramp. courtesy to the scales and courtesy to the trucks in front of me.
from the chats i've had with the scales. which have been very few. it would appear that a lot of safety issues have been handed over to the highway patrol now. and taken off the scales.
for instance. if you have less then 4 chains on each row of cars. the scales no longer give you tickets. that's the highway patrols job.
as was told by colorado. -

When I get close to a scale at night, I turn off all my lights and blow past the scale. They cant chase you if they can't see you.

I blew by the Knoxville scales twice this week! -
ON.
have been pulled in twice for having them off, to see if they worked. once in Canada and then in NY. they asked if I turned them off to hide a blown bulb.
So I says to meself," self, if they wanna see if they work well here ya are" !! -
