Curious if anyone has ever drove for WM or a Rolloff? I found a job here in NC that says they’ll get me close to $22 per hour based on my experience etc... I’ve never drove a rolloff, but did drive a front end for a couple months when I was younger for a shady company and hated it. They wouldn’t follow DOT regulations and I ended up getting 93 1/2 hours in one week. I recall one day in particular that I went in at 3am and I didn’t punch out until 11:45 that night, then had to go home, sleep and be right back at 3am. I was just curious what Waste Management would be like considering it’s a much larger company and the pay is good

WM has a rule. Truck gets hit three times. You’re out of a job. No time limit. Doesn’t matter if it’s parked and someone runs into it.

Wm is a good company with work that will keep on. It is very political and the ones who are working that plant can make a newbies life a bit hard. Roll off work is pretty easy except you have to tarp them big boxes and sometimes they are a bit over loaded.

Roll off work is great, after you pull the box on your back, you get to climb a big dirt hill and then drive across a sponge. Back in the 70's I worked for 13 different trash companies, all mob owned. The Feds came in,closed most of them down, now we have WM. I remember one guy used to put his arm around me and say,"do me a favor" which usually meant do something for nothing.I think he's in prison. After I quit he called me up all mad because I had 4 containers stashed in an industrial park. The swag was great too,I don't think I ever had to buy disposable diapers for my first born.I think they frown on that now, might even fire you.Man,I could go on for days about the garbage industry, but like everything else it isn't like it used to be.

Waste management decent pay and good hours along with good benefits.
Cons are facing cameras and equipment is not properly maintain. -
WM is a reasonably decent company. The pay can be different depending on locations. Some pay hourly, other by the haul or load weight. Just depends.
Benefits are good and the usual corporate stuff. Used to be about $55.00 a week for full medical for two adults.
Roll off has seasonal swings, winter will slow down quite a bit. April to September are the busy months, mostly related to construction picking up.
They have in cab camera systems and GPS tracking in most trucks. If you sit too long with the engine running, you will get a call from dispatch. If you run the engine when you on breaks, you will get a call from dispatch. If the cameras record or live feed you drinking, eating, talking on the phone or a number of other things while the truck is moving, you will be talking to safety and management. They do provide uniforms, you are required to wear only the items they supply. If it is not approved, you will be talking to management.
Should you get stuck in a mud hole at a location and need a winch out. It is considered an incident. That includes job sites. If for any reason any tire is off the ground, that is a roll over. Roll overs are immediate termination.
WM has the highest turnover rate in the business.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
They sound more stricter than a freight company. No wonder the turnover is so high.

Check into Action Resources. Not sure of locals in NC.
