Got a opportunity to purchase a Great Dane 2003 model with a roll up door . The price is roughly $8,500 ( slightly neg ) I know the doors will require more maintance with cables etc , but the main 2 questions I have are
1. Price ( good or bad )
2. Payload - will door impair payload at back end of trailer on high cube loads
It has good brakes & tires , body in great shape , slider works , converted to LED lights on rear and turn signals
Thanks
Roll door or Swing ( trailer )

I think I can get it for 8,200 he basically said that was his bottom number . Fresh DOT also inside looks very good looks like 1 board may need replaced eventually ( but not to start ) has strap hooks through out , no visible sign of leaks from water looks like its been a dry trailer , solid metal or aluminum roof

A roll up limits space usage towards the rear of the trailer. You rarely see a roll-up doing OTR. If you had a dedicated run it could work. Another problem is fork lift drivers forgetting to lower their forks after placing a high pallet while backing out.

Many MANY loads say no rollup doors... so I would avoid that. another problem is that over time, they like to get off track because of all the vibration, opening and closing.. that's a real pain in the ###. The price you mentioned is a little high in my opinion. Check out Knight transport, they're selling 02-03 dry van duraplate with e-tracks for around $7500, and they will help finance. let me know if you'd like a number.

Aren't those spring ride?

First trailer I bought was a rollup door with post lift gate (dedicated customer). First general freight dock it went to it got rejected. Had to rent a trailer from Ryder to take the load while I put the trailer in the shop to remove the post lift gate and rollup and add swing doors.
Rollup doors drop 4" of height and some loads, high cube, won't load. -
No it is an air ride .. But I think I've changed my direction on this totally
-
yes they are.. good equipment though. Downside is that you can't haul glass, chips and sensitive electronics from what I see

Unless you are going to pull for a dedicated customer, I'd go for a swing door 102"...... you will not be limited on freight then.

Roll up is ok on dedicated multi drop routes , I had 2 dryvans with them and were a pain when it came time to sell them , 2 other dryvans with swing doors sold fast.
