I currently work at Central Transport, but it hasn't been a good experience. Dispatcher is a ####### and equipment is really bad. Trucks constantly breaking down and shop doesn't fix anything. I technically have an assigned truck but since there is a master key, other drivers keep taking it. Took about an hour yesterday to find a decent truck.

I got a offer from Roehl. It's local, but by the mile. Sliding pay from .70 to 80. 150 mile radius from the city I live in. Home everyday. What do y'all think? Should I take it or stay with Central? I make 27.50 here. After taxes and insurance I bring home 1000. Roehl is saying I could gross 1400 a week.

To really make good suggestions...you should also tell us what city/state you're in...& how long you've been with Central...& how much TOTAL driving experience you have....

With that other info--we may be able to suggest better than Roehl.

In my experience with Roehl (mind you this was ten years ago), they take good care of their equipment, and I never had any problems with any dispatchers there. So that takes care of those two problems.

That said, I’d be concerned about the pay. I’ve been a local driver for a handful of different companies for the last nine years, all hourly. No way in hell would I take a local job for anything other than hourly pay.

Pay is what I'm concerned about too. Cpm is high, but I'm worried about the miles. 150 mile radius sounds wide, but how many miles would I get a week? I want to make AT LEAST 1000 a week. No less

Must not be on where I live. Centrals home town. They don’t pay $27.50 hr. here. Maybe $23.00 . Ot is after 50 or 55 hrs. Still can make a decent paycheck. Always lots of work, short of Drivers. Roehl has an ad for local Driver on a tire account. Driver I talked to said they really do pay good. It’s advertised at around $27 hr. Central’s OK for short term. Long term? I can’t imagine. Worked there a year. It paid well. They were Teamsters w/ Master Freight Contract. Still had no desire to stay very long. .70 cpm and short miles can’t be good. Try to find hourly with OT after 8 or 40, and OT available. Even if it’s less than $27.50. Run the numbers. 50 hr. 5 day work week is ideal. 60 hrs. even better IMO. more money. Have to get the time and half.

If you aren't happy with Central, then why not give Roehl a chance? If they say you can make 1400 weekly, why not see if thats a check they can cash? If it doesn't work, there's always somewhere for you work....

Because I really don't want to job hop anymore. Most of the LTL companies aren't interested because I've had several jobs in my 1st year already. Longest was Swift for 9 months. I just want to find a place and stay at it for a couple of years while being local and at least making 1000 a week. Central put doubts in my mind when I tried to leave the other day saying "do you really want to leave hourly pay for CPM?". Idk I'm just lost...

I'd say that although Rohel is a solid outfit with good equipment and Central is an absolute frigging disgrace, I'd stay with Central until something better comes along.
That 150 miles turns into 150 miles plus 5 hours of waiting to get loaded or unloaded (for free), pretty quickly.
Then up at 3 am only to come home at 3 pm driving 300 miles @.70......sooo, $210.
There's a reason why this job is available.

You get paid for other things also. 28 dollars per live load, 14 dollars D&H, and sliding CPM. If you run a shorter run like 35 miles, you get .82 cpm. Something longer like 80 miles it's .78 CPM. The shorter the run the higher CPM.

Well, go for it. I don't blame you for wanting to get away from Central.
    Good luck and best wishes.
