Just wanted to let everyone know. I left the Roehl Refrigerated division last Feb. to start my own business. This business was not in the Transportation industry, and I informed Roehl of this when I gave my 2 weeks notice. Now back to leaving. I gave my notice upon leaving the house. I ran 10-14 days at a time trying to get home on a weekend. 3 days out I was routed to Gary for Maintenence, and was told at that time I would be turning the truck in there because freight was slow. They rented me a car to go home and wished me luck. I thought all was well untill I sold my new business and tried to get a new job in Trucking. Apparently they listed me on DAC as being terminated. I am not a student and was grandfathered in under CDL. You old timers will know what that means. I learned at the school of hard knocks. All trucking companies are basically the same, but liying on the DAC is something they all don't do. BE CAREFUL with this company! I never expected this. Shame on me.

I left Roehl at the very end of October 2008 after I gained local employment driving a truck being home every day. I drove for Roehl for 7 months just out of a CDL school after making a career change. I gave them a week's notice that I was QUITTING because my miles at Roehl were horrible, planning even worse, etc., etc., and I had gained local employment. I turned in the truck at Ellenwood just like I was suppose to and got maintenance to sign for the keys.

I wasn't there long enough to amount to much of anything in the 401k so their Wells Fargo program automatically sent me a check for the couple hundred dollars I had in their retirement program. I needed the money after working for them anyway, lol! On the notice sent with the check it said "TERMINATED"!

I got my supervisor at where I work at now to call HR at Roehl and ask for a job reference on me, they simply stated that I was terminated and not eligible for rehire, they would/could not give him a reason. He knows that I was still working/sitting for Roehl when he hired me because he wanted me to start immediately but I couldn't for a little over a week to makes things final with Roehl!

I refrained from posting this on here two weeks ago when I found this out but feel compelled to speak out now that I see this has happened to another driver. WTF?!?! I quit!!! How do you take care of this?

If I could do it all over again I would have never went to work for them to do my training, I really wished I had picked Schneider. If you work for Roehl now and put in a notice, please get a signed paper from someone stating that you are QUITTING! I wished I had done this to cover my rear!

That's good advice on any job. A letter of resignation sent certified mail, return receipt requested, isn't a bad idea either.

I have posted on this site for 2 years about this mill company. Much was said to put me down and put "Roehl" in the limelight. I told it like it was. I wasn't trying to recruit students on this site to fill an empty seat in my truck to put money in my pocket, unlike some have and continue to do. If you are considering Roehl, consider working for a fast food company first. You will make more money and get treated a LOT better. Search my posts. Question me about anything you like. I am and have been happily employed with the same trucking company that I left Roehl for. I am thankful to have found this job, and equally sad for the time I spent at Roehl. Don't believe the lies on the brochures. They are all lies. Each statement is a lie.
    Good luck and be safe.

Hate to tell you this driver but they did terminate you. It says so in your own post. You gave them 14 days notice and they had you clean your truck out in 3. Does not matter why they canned you or that you gave notice. The fact is they kicked you to the curb before you planned to leave. Which is called termination of employment.

Drivers need to read the part when they are in orientation which says that either the carrier or the driver can terminate employment without cause, and at any time. If they tell you to clean out your truck before you tell them you are cleaning it out, it's termination of employment.

Usually when it says termination on the DAC it is only bad if it is with cause. Like stole from the company, got in a wreck etc... Did they give a reason for the termination? If not why would it hinder you from getting a job in trucking? It did not keep me from getting a job. Your length of time not driving may have more to do with getting turned down then termination without prejudice.

Not just Roehl but any driving job. You should have in writing that you owe no money and the reason for separation. Otherwise some clock watcher will just put termination and could care less.

May Trucking got all huffy when I dragged them out into the rain to inspect my rig but I got it all in writing because you never know what these ####'s will do after you shut the door behind you. Protect your interests because they don't care. They barely care about you when you work there making them money. Why would think they care about you after you leave?

While I understand that they are a driver mill, some of their drivers must like it there. How long did you work for them? Where you an o\o, l\o or company driver? How do you prove that the statements in the ads are lies? As doing so in print is false advertising and is (I believe) a crime. I am not a current employee of Roehl, though I am scheduled to start training on march 2 this year. If you have insight to provide I am still researching the company and many others as well.

Well heck some drivers like Swift but thats not saying much. Nor a barometer for how good the company is. When you get out on the road you will see why some of these drivers would drive for food as long as they have the cot in the back. :biggrin_255:

I hear ya. Just asking about the ability of the drivers to get along with support staff, as this can and has been the downfall of many drivers. I do understand that freight is slow everywhere now and for the foreseeable future, but that alone cannot be the sole reason for having problems. I am asking these question to get a better perspective of how things are for all drivers at Roehl, I am signed up to run flatbed national with them after school. However, if I don't like it before I start school, I won't go. Also I am not one to say no to any load that I am licensed to deliver, anywhere anytime (as long as its legal).:biggrin_2552:

I drove for them for about nine years. I made great money with them as a solo and made even more as a trainer. I left to pull tanks for a more local outfit but maintain if I ever have to go back to bumping docks it will be with them. They have their warts like everyone but for me it was a decent fit. I was lucky in that I only had two dispatchers I would call bad and didn't stay on either's board long. My equipment was always well maintained and over the years I never had any "Mistakes" on a paycheck. I think the phrase that should apear after all the testimonial of ANY company should be "Your results may vary".

Also upon leaving I gave notice and was brought into the Gary yard on the appointed day. Car rental wasn't an option due to where I live (Think owls and chickens having intimate relations). The company tried to score me a train ticket because that would have gotten me real close to the house(70 miles). All trains booked for weeks ahead so I settled for a bus that got me around 180 miles from the house. No dac issues to report and they really did a nice job of laying on the love to keep me.
