My question is simple and just need a recommendation, and I may just answer my own question in asking it. Robertson's Ready Mix is nearby and offers people with no experience a chance to get their CDL for free like most company-sponsored programs with in return at 2-year contract with them. The other option is to go to Long Beach Community College who offers a 12-week long program to go through the training and testing process with all the big endorsements. What would be more beneficial? Robertson's with a pretty much guaranteed job, or go to the community college and pay a little and have the freedom to choose a local company (my preference.) Thanks everyone!

I would go to LBCC, Robertson's is booming when construction is booming and the weather is nice. Look at last winter, the weeks of rain means sitting at home with no pay, and hoping for a sunny week so the job sites can dry out.

I have worked for two ready mix companies and let me tell you dude you don't want to be a new driver in that industry.

The industry jumps up and down faster than gas. If its hot has hell out your making 800ish take home a week if you get a rainy week your paycheck is shot to hell. Some companies may give u guarteed 32 hours paid a week. But if your salary is $12-13 a hour yea your not eating on that.

They don't teach u how to drive mixer trucks in school and their is a learning curve..make a turn at the slightest too fast and you will tip over. The mud in the mixers carries you alot it takes skill get used to it. Hell i watched a safety video of this guy going 10 mph on a turn and he fliped over on the car next to him.

Plus end of day at a 14hour shift you have to wash your truck out. Plus you'll have dried up cement in your as.crack god knows how.

O and most mixer truck companies have ignorant ahole customers. You either have billy redneck pushing u around at a jobsite or no English senor pounding a corona and making weird hand gestures at you to dump your load.

Lastly, if your not pushing 70 hours on your clock don't plan on having Saturday off. If their is sun out somebody wants their mud and your hauling it.

Lastly again, if u get a curb job your going to want to shoot someone end of day. Pouring cement curb is a slow process you will be sitting at the job site all day for these dudes to pour only 12 yards. Your truck can only hold 9-10 yards of cement so yea if they fall just short ..6 hours later..your going back to the plant to top them off. If u make any kind of comment to them, hell if ur left eye rolls too much they will just call dispatch and ur done sir

Don't go to roberts. They pay crap and their equipment is pure junk. Most of their drivers are the real seedy type too
