So I took my road test yesterday and passed(ny)
2 other people in my class also took it that day along with a bus student and a driver from another school. Anything more than 50 points is a fail. So first guy get 40 points and this guy was a city bus driver for 20 years. I take mine and when he had me go on the highway he tells me to go in the left lane(up a steep grade) about 500 feet onto the highway. I am driving maybe 50 in a high traffic area(beacon to ct exit) at this point in a 65 zone. Then i manage to get up to 55 and he tells me to go back into the right lane. I turn blinker on look there is a car approaching I keep looking I see that he is letting me go to right lane so I go to the right lane. He gives me 10 points because the car was too close. My instructor told me before I took the test that you will get atleast 35 points with this guy he is the hardest dmv road test guy in ny. I passed with 45 points everyone else failed that i saw 3 other people. How can you tell me to go to the left lane up a hill while driving less than the speed limit then tell me to go back to right lane and then say I did something wrong? None of the dmv guys who do the road tests have there cdl license which is basically illegal. You cannot drive a tractor trailer with a permit unless someone else with a cdl license is in the truck with you. When I went to do my parallel parking he tells me to make a left into this parking lot. I make the left and he keeps telling left left so i go to the left and then he says no you have to stay to the right of the road. ##### me up on the set up before my parallel parking and then tells me to parallel park between two islands with no line or curb for me to see in my mirror. SO he takes off points for to far from curb and to many maneuvers to park. I am mean I still passed but god #### his communication skills suck and then he trys to #### you up and has you doing #### your not allowed to do like being in a passing lane up a hill below the speed limit. WTF?

Maybe the 'test' was whether or not you'd tell him it was unsafe to do what he wished you to do. IDK, just a thought. Congratulations on passing your test!!!

There are definately some sucky testers out there. The guy that went after me failed he pretrip bacause the tester "couldn't here him" WHAT? Couldn't have told him to speak up? (luckily I'm a loud #######) Granted it was a very rainy day, not a great day to be crawling under a truck and they probably didn't want to be working that day, but THEY picked their job!

Their Exempt, same goes for the Fire Dept, a little bit of training and off you go, no CDL. I have mixed feelings on that one.

Very likely. Back when I took my original (Class D) lic roadtest me and my buddy went together. The trooper told him to make a right at a red light with a sign telling him not too. When they got back the trooper told he he failed and it was that light, my buddy then reminded the trooper that per the manual a police officers instruction overrides all trafic signals and signage and offered to get his book and show him....... He DID leave with his lic that day :)

My school told me. They know all the dmv road testers and how they get certified to do the testing.

when i first got in the truck with my tester he says to me "now im not into all this downshifting ####. just drive" oh lord. i had no idea what to do. i was already terrified and barely knew what i was doing. I took a turn in 7th because i was afraid to downshift! hahaha he says "well that was rough" LOL all that matters is if you pass! which i did! but it is some bs. my instructor knew i couldn't parallel and i told him before the test i was really nervous i would have to (we only had to perform a couple of maneuvers the "state" randomly selected) so my instructor firmly assured me i wouldn't have to and lo and behold i didn't! somehow by "chance" i had to do a 90 which i had down. it's all bs. they pass who they want.
