Anyone use one of these road king look alikes? I just bought a new radio and my mic is shot. A shop patched it up to make due for now but I'm gonna need a new one soon. Are these worth it or should I just wait and grab the real deal?
road pro mic? good or bad?

Get the real deal. The Road Pro is "cheap" (in price) for a reason.

I use a $10 , replacement mike for my 1995 Cobra 29, (15 watts,w/ peak/tune),Wilson antenna and good cable, and was told it's crisp,clear and strong.
those power mikes, need batteries and usually start sounding muffled ,like the adults on the Charlie Brown cartoons.lol -
I agree go for the real deal....or if you're on a budget, the Skythumper mic is IMO just as good as a RK56 and lesser priced. Also try not to buy at truck stops if you can avoid it. I've noticed the RK56's at truck stops are overpriced.

If your radio has a Mic Gain do not buy a powered mic. The Mic Gain on the radio is basically the same as using a powered mic. Just get a good/decent noise cancelling mic.

My old radio had a power Mic with it when I got it the cord is bad but its not worth replacing it. I'm just looking for a good noise cancelling mic. I haven't seen any good prices on road kings not even at the cb shops I've stopped at in the last few days. I should add I have had my last radio quite a long time just upgraded to a stryker 447

Go with the ones that have a proven track history.... Astatic and Turner have been around for eons.

Well for the time being until I find a good deal on a road king I picked up a astatic.

i just ordered a roadking 56 for my 3300, $63. total for the mic and shipping from a guy i found on ebay, his site is redmancb.com,good luck
Kujo Thanks this. -
if it is stock or properly tuned (not much difference) use the telex turner road king 56 if you can find one. telex sold turner to DAS back in December, so any new road kings will be made in china. Try to get your hands on the real deal for best results. I hate listening to guys who sound muffled. crystal clear is what you are shooting for.
