Rider Programs/Rider Policies

Almost any company will let you have a spouse rid with you. The one requirement they have is that they DO NOT have a CDL license. If they do you will be required to surrender it, while they are on the road with you. Some will even let you have a child 12yrs of age or older. Don't quote me on this, but when you looking for a company to work for make sure you ask these questions before hand...

 

And find out how much it costs to have a rider. I was horrified to see that one guy was charged $40 a week for a rider?!

KLLM allows riders over the age of 12, but kids can only ride a maximum of 3 weeks at a time. You need three months experience before you are allowed a rider, and you need to stay accident free for three months to have a rider. Rider policy costs $17 a month.

 

Knight is one of these outfits that lets you have a spouse ride a long, and then charges an arm, a leg, and the shirt off your back for "insurance purposes." IMHO, if you are gonna have her with you, get her into a training program and up to speed on driving so you can be making money together, instead of spending money to be together!

 

Same with swift, they will let your spouse or "other half" ride with you all the time but they cant have a cdl and you must pay for insurance. An once you get your truck they can ride with you from the getgo no exp needed to have a passenger.

 

Be advised some shippers/receivers will only allow CDL drivers inside the gate . Some locations require drivers to watch a video to get a yearly pass . Passengers are required to wait at the guard shack .

 

Have your other half get the CDL too, and then you don't have to worry about rider deals, and you can both be together, make some money, and enjoy each other's company. Just remember, you will be closed up together in something smaller than most bathrooms. If you two can handle that, then go for it as a team.

 

I was wondering how the Riders policy go & how much is it per week im currently in Prime training for tankers thanks to all that comment on here

 

I don't know of any tanker company's that allow riders. At least on the chemical side, food grade I'm not sure.
