I'll be heading up to Albany Sunday night and am wondering what's the best route. Load is light -- 8,000 lb, so I wouldn't mind detouring through mountains to avoid metro traffic & tolls as long as it didn't add more than an hour or so.
Google says going via Harrisburg, PA & Binghamton, NY adds 40 miles and 30 minutes compared to going up 95 to 87. How much would that save in tolls?
Thanks

I-95 north to 17 north to I - 66 west to I - 81 north to I - 88. You avoid D.C., Baltimore going this way.

I second that going to Binghamton then to Albany. Partly because that's by the house, but the little bit extra mileage outweighs the cost of the tolls. I'll go 95, 495, 270, 15, 81, 88. Plus on a Sunday no one will be out to bother you. I'll be leaving Sunday morning, otherwise I'd offer up a dinner for you; some delicious chicken speedies!

88 is for sure a nice ride most of the time

Yeah, DC/Baltimore is an area to avoid at all costs. I-95 to US-17 (exit 133) to I-66 to I-81 to I-88 to destination. No fuss, no muss. US-17 a little slow for first 5 miles, thru construction, then you pretty much cruise and enjoy the scenery.
