Stay away from this comapany.. they will give you bad Trucks as in wont pass DOT, leave you stuck on the side of the road and pile o' krap. they dont care about you as a driver and if you quit or get fired.. They wont give you your last check or escrow...

Defing "bad" truck. Is it "bad", as in "like, hey dude.......that's a pretty bad ride you have there". Or is it "bad", as in , what a pile o' krap? Or maybe somewhere in between?

    Care to elaborate?

I've never been a company driver but is it a common scenario for a company driver to have to put money into an escrow account?

Company driver and 1099 do not belong in the same sentence.

For those 1099 companies in Chicagoland, totally. It may be comon practice with other companies not solely in Chicago. You aren't a company driver with those companies. You're a "company driver.," wink, wink. They probably had him start a corporation too. All of that is to disguise some of their illegal ways of doing business. These practices amount to them growing their business. They skip out on doing the work to take out taxes, child support, and social security. They skip out on having to offer insurance and other bennies, all the while getting tax write offs as if they're an employer but paying a 1099. The driver doesn't write off anything of significance. Also, the escrow just
swells their bottom line. They'll get like 2500 for every driver that comes in there and ultimately quits, and that driver will never see that money. Heaven forbid, that driver screws up, well, he just made that owner richer because he got charged. 1099 companies are like having COBRA for health insurance. You only go that route if you have no other options.

It wasn't always like that but with the migration of bad/poorly trained drivers some companies charge escrow to cover damages etc.
