My buddy was involved in a accident in his personal car. Never was cited and no injuries. Does he need to report that to his company? He asked me and wasn’t sure. I am curious my self.

Yes. Your carrier will send an annual questionnaire asking about all tickets and accidents both commercial and personal. He should mention it to them now also.

Different opinions on that, but I wouldn't report it.

He has no duty to volunteer this information, he does have a duty to identify the accident during the carriers annual review.
As stated in the initial post, the driver was not issued a citation, so there is nothing to comply with in part 383.31.
Under part 391.25, the carrier has a duty to conduct an annual inquiry and review of each drivers driving record, he will be required to report it then.Hegemeister Thanks this. -
Dont know about other states but if there were injuries/deaths and/or over $400 in damage, my state reports it on your DMV report whether it was your fault or not. They do include a phrase that states reporting it does not mean it was your fault.

Any police reported accident in NJ, regardless of fault, shows up on both driver's abstracts.
During the annual review AND during the insurance renewal it should come up as both situations require running a current abstract. My broker runs them at renewal and gives me a copy to use for the annual review.
I always advise getting a copy of the report as the insurance carrier may want to see a copy to determine fault.
Most companies allow only one 'at fault' accident over 3 years and they include your personal vehicle too so having copies can make the difference. Better to get the reports early as they can be much harder to get a few years later.justa_driver Thanks this. -
If the police took a report I would let company know. If its a minor bump and both parties agree its not worth chasing each other's insurance and decide to part ways without taking details then it never happened.

I should’ve been more thorough in my answer. If nothing was reported anywhere there is nothing to report.Manny328 Thanks this.
