I'm a company driver and I recently moved into a 23 peterbilt 579. The headlights are brand new but are not very bright. I suggested installing led lights but equipment manager claims they will burn up wiring harness. I can't see that and even talked with guy at pete store he agrees with me. Has anyone used LED lights and had them burn wiring harness? I need ideas for better light. Thanks

Variations in amperage draw cause problems in much older units.

Out of my league for newer trucks.

Put them on my 06 and finally could see the road at night again.
    Did not burn up anything.
Now if you buy some make sure it has the DOT approved in the glass.
Dot will write you a ticket for unapproved lighting.

If the wiring isn't made for the current of the LED lights, it will burn up the wiring. If you are lucky you just burn up the wiring and not set the plastic hood on fire. Check the aim of the headlights.

Did you possibly get out of a car or truck that had the LED lights and these headlights are not as bright as those?

LED bulbs are normally cool to the touch and minimal power draw.

For those reasons I would think a 2023 truck would have LED already

LEDs draw tiny tiny amounts of power compared to old incandescent bulbs, like fractions of power. what do new trucks have for headlights? projector? surely not incandescent.

that said I've ran several different LEDs and not burned anything down. that's what fuses and relays are for

OMG, the wire can handle the current draw but unless you have projection lights, don't bother. You will blind people and you don't want to do that.

ALSO, a '23 Pete should have good lights.

Oh and before I forget, the DoT does NOT approve lights, it is the manufacturer or the branding company that makes the claim that it meets the SAE requirements. Most of these lights are junk and are not legal because they produce light scatter which will blind everyone. SO be warned.

Stock headlights are either Halogen or HID.

The wiring will be fine if you upgrade to aftermarket LED. Not much out there for the new hood, yet.

Parameters will need changed for them to function correctly. VECU with throw faults.
