If you've got an International straight truck which you really like, but it's got a DT466E which you know is going to go bad sooner or later, then is it possible/feasible/realistic to remove the DT466E and replace it with an older but remanufactured DT466 pure mechanical?

Would it be child's play for an experienced International shop?

Or would it be a huge pain in the neck which would involve all sorts of heavy-duty re-welding of the frame, and jerry-rigging a crazy weird new electrical harness & sensors?

Thanks for any advice y'all can offer.

PS: If this is a fairly well known transplant, then what would be good prices for the remanufactured DT466 mechanical and for the engine swap? Thanks.

PPS: Would the EPA have a cow if you did this?

I don't know anything about those engines but if it's the same engine and that's the same block I don't see why it wouldn't just go into the same motor mounts.

I don't know about International there may be other electronic controls like there may be an electronic fan control or something like that that you would have to go around and if any of the gauges have some kind of a computerized aspect to them you may have to work around that. I don't know if the intake and the exhaust and all of that is changed on any of those engines so that is a consideration but those are minor things. Also I don't know if the radiator hookup is in the same exact spot that type of thing but again they're minor things. I would think any shop that does engine swaps would be able to do that. The last thing is you also have to check to see the fan mounts in the same place where that you can use that fan or how you can adapt it if it's not the same. And of course you need a mechanical pedal and linkage.

If it were me I would look at a mechanical motor and try to compare some of those things. But I would think any shop that does engine replacement or engine swaps would be able to do that.

As far as the legal considerations, if the truck is newer than 2002 I would think that's where the legal issues would come in. I think the first technically emission engines were 2003 with EGR but I'm not sure about International.

Depeds where you are and what you use the truck for.

Hooking in a mechanical gas pedal could be a challenge too.
