Am I crazy to think about replacing the Maxxforce engine on my 2012 Prostar with a pre-emmisions Cat 3406 engine? The Maxxforce and all its electrical ######## components are slowly bankrupting me. TIA

Not crazy but not legal either. You can not back date with a non emissions motor with a emission controlled one. Also unless your handy in fabricating a new engine harness that going to be pricey for a shop to wire it up. Unless engine temp and oil psi aren't important.
Just sell it. Might be cheaper in the long run.Dino soar, Lookunderthetruck and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
If I had one, and owed way more than the $20k or less they are selling for, and wanted to obey the law, I'd be looking for a wrecked one with a Cummins, that way you'll have all the parts you need.

That's another solution. Keeps you legal and maybe a little less prone to being broke. Also you could do a delete with the ISX if you are inclined, do so afterwards.

The Maxx-Farce engine is one of the biggest piles of junk ever invented.
You're better off selling or trading it in then to sink any more money into it.

I see this is an old post, but wondered if you were able to do this. If so, what did you do about the ECM wire harness?
