We lease trailers. The renter [lessee] demands an insurance certificate with them named as 'an additionally insured' usually in the amount equal to the value of the item which garantees the leesor's insuirance covers the leesee's exposure.

That way the leesor commits to paying for the loss if he screws up using his insurance commtted up front.

Contract needs a bunch of provisions; maintenace, tire replacement, body damang, etc.

Get legal assistance; most contracts are created by using a whole lot of time and court tested 'boilerplate' selected to cover the necessary things you want and it shouldn't really cost all that much for a ton of C.Y.A. all the lawyer will do is have the paralegal type it up with a Nos. 3.5.8.and 11 from 'so and so's' legal guide.

So you’re going to be paying the insurance for their driver who has three DUIs , Six speeding tickets and four at fault accidents ?

that’s going to be some expensive insurance .

when the truck that’s owned by you personally and titled in your name is involved in an accident ,
Do you think the victims lawyer might sue you , ? Since you’re the owner and it’s your fault that the truck you own crashed because it was not maintained and / or , you allowed an inexperienced driver to operate it ?

you need to see the lease agreement that other rental companies use

sunbelt and United rent dump trucks
I’m sure their lease agreement has been well vetted by their in house attorneys .
And protects the owners from liability on an accident , and from the negligence of the operators .

and remember , the reason people want to rent your truck instead of buying their own truck , is usually they have terrible credit score because they don’t pay their bills . If they had good credit , they would just buy a truck instead of renting it .

Trucking is mostly About managing risk .
And renting your truck to someone else can be very risky , both ways , in that the renter will trash it and not pay . And in that the renter will cause a serious accident and you will be blamed by a jury .

someone post up the link to the story about the trucking company that got sued into oblivion because they hired another company to pull their trailer without the proper lease agreement , and had an accident .

According to their website United gets $650 a day for their tandem dumps
You could ask for a copy of their rental agreement .
I’m sure it’s a lot more complicated than their equipment since it’s gonna be used on the highway and subject to many many state and federal regulations regarding the equipment and the person operating it .
There are zero or close to zero regulations from the govt regarding who can operate a skid steer or excavator
