I went in to renew my CDL and they said since I had gotten a ticket (seat belt in passenger vehicle) roughly two years ago I have to take all the written tests to renew my license!! This includes everything from the class D basic test, to the motorcycle, and all the CDL related tests. What the hell? This this some kind of new law or was this DMV clerk just trying to give me a hard time?

    Yes it is.

I will look for the link.

    Here is a link

What is required to renew a CDL?
A vision test is required at every renewal. A written test is required every other renewal. However, if you have a clean driving record (no tickets, accidents, suspension, etc.), the written test will be waived. The hazardous materials endorsement written test must be successfully completed each time you renew your CDL. A road test is only required for individuals 75 years of age and older.

    Far out Brussel Sprout!

    That's a tough law!

I assume this came in after the whole bribery for CDL deal a few years back ?

Makes a CDL holder think twice before relocating.

I cannot remember. But, I think it has been a side effect.

The secretary of state scandal was very deep. It went way up and did great damage to the image of the trucker in this state. Knee jerk reaction and public outcry brought this to us.

Personally, never worry about it. I have no tickets since I was 16 for speeding and the last accident was in a blizzard in 1997. All of them pre CDL life.

Now if they could figure out how to hire more polite people in the Elk Grove Village CDL facility they'd be on to something. Seriously those clerks are the rudest and most condescending I've seen. Go up to Libertyville, it's worth the drive.

    Take your word on it.

I live in the Springfield area. I go to the main facility.

The Elk Grove folks are funny. My favorite is the lesbian lady. She threw the pen on the counter like she wanted to hit me with it.

The last time I went to Elk Grove Village the line was back to the doors. You have to love gov't workers. They have two emotions, none and mean! :)
