Driver suffered a blowout which scarred up the side of his reefer trailer. Most mild cleaners and solvents don't help much to remove the black markings/scratches. Very fine (0000) steel wool just seems to shine up the trailer skin around the area without removing the black rubber which is embedded in very fine scratch grooves in the side of the trailer. Any advice on something that can break down the rubber and remove it? Thoughts?

Try some of the goo gone! I heard that works good. Wal Mart has it in the hardware section. If it is scarred then that isn't going to fix it!
    I wish you luck.

What ever you use try a little are first to make sure it work to your satisfaction. But regardless of what you use your likely to shine the surface.

Here are a couple of suggestions.

WD 40 ................. Auto and hardware Stores

Mothers Aluminum cleaner... Auto Part Stores.

Magic Eraser ............ Hardware Stores and Supermarkets.

    Safe Scrub...............Supermarkets.

    Westleys Tire Bleach........ Auto Stores
(Essentially, it is a tire cleaning bleach used to remove marks from rubber. But it is supposed to work equally well removing rubber marks from other surfaces and will not damage paint or aluminum).

Sometimes my boat trailer's black rollers scuff my boat. I use rubbing compound since it was all I had and it cleans it up good.

Update: Found Chomp Pro Gutter and Metal Cleaner in the shop. We share a shop with a contractor that used to do gutter work. It worked beautifully. Took all of the rubber marks off without much visible effect on the trailer. Hopefully, this will help someone in the future.

I looked on the bottle and they don't indicate the active ingredients so I don't know what's in it.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
