i ain't never done it, saw NO reason to do it.

now what if (as a company driver) you have to pick up some other driver for your company..?? where does he sit.?? of course if you have a sleeper, well then the passenger can log time there i suppose.

maybe if i were to own my own truck...??

HHMMmmmm......nope, i'd still want that seat for any passenger i may take with me, or if i was to help out the company i was either leased to or under contract with.

now comes up another issue....say both seats are air ride...the drivers seat breaks...and the passenger seat was removed...?? what will you do..?? what will you do..?? think maybe now the boss will be upset that he's gotta probably buy you a new seat on the road, rather than just a simple switch out..??

do as YOU wish or what the boss SAYS is ok.....i don't really care one way or the other..

but if you need to help out someone, someday.......

it was the boss's idea, so no issue there, and it is a sleeper cab so if someone had to ride they could ride there. 99.9 percent of the time ill be the only one in the truck.

when i put my electric cooler in the truck it wouldn't fit up off the floor anywhere so it really cuts down on floor space, i asked about possibly putting in a shelf where the upper bunk would be if it had two bunks and he mentioned we could take out the passenger seat to give me more floor space.

i can understand not wanting to attach anything to the walls of the sleeper really i just wish i had a shelf above the bed for more storage. or a double bunk so i could store stuff on the upper bunk

well if the boss is OK with it, then have the shop remove it. done deal. just BE SURE to not put anything in that spot that will obstruct your view of the mirrors..!! given what the DOT cops do at weigh stations or "pull overs', you certainly DO NOT want to give them reason to write you up, for an obstructed view........

    best of luck to you.

Your boss says it's okay which could be cool to put a dorm fridge/freezer in that spot. Most companies won't allow drivers to remove equipment.

The only problem I can see is if you had a wreck and the only way out was the passenger door and you had it blocked. If there was a fire, you only have seconds. Though the odds are slim, you have to be prepared for the worst. I'm not sure there is a NTSB/DOT regulation concerning two exits? I know they use to have them escape hatches in the bunk area. Still do on some trucks.

The trouble is that once you start letting employees modify a company vehicle, they will be cutting out the shelves in the sleeper, rearranging it to accommodate the big screen TV and the full size refrigerator he wants to put in there. Making a hole in the floor to drain their p bottles through. And in a few months (weeks) they will quit and go elsewhere leaving a butchered truck behind for the next guy to start the process again.

I got a training truck back after a two month leave of absence and the entire sleeper had been "Customized". Thanks a lot! Nothing like finding ways to fill holes through the floor!

yup that is the reason why he does not want me to put shelf's in the sleeper and suggested that we remove the passenger seat there is some spots supplied by the manufacture that look like they are made for a shelf bracket to clip into, im sure if i find some brackets that will clip in there a shelf wouldent be a problem, i don't blame him for not wanting brackets screwed into the walls. i think i would rather keep the passenger seat but if that's what he is willing to do to make more space i may go that route. i think i will leave the seat in for right now and see if i can get a little more creative with my storage i picked up a couple totes that can slide under the bed for storing some items. it looks like the truck was made with all the previsions for a top bunk i wonder what it would cost for everything to put the top bunk in minus the mattress. as i just want more storage, theres all that space above the bed but at the moment no way to utilize it witch is what id really like to do opposed to removing the passenger seat. reading one thread around here they mentioned strapping there 12 volt cooler into the passenger seat and the cooler is the main item id like to get up off the floor so i may try that out. and see how that works out.

also im not working for the normal mega carrier im working for my uncle inlaw who is a owner operator and owns two trucks, so he wants me to be as comfortable as possible and understands the space issue as he is normally sleeping in his truck a few spots away in the same truck stops. i don't own the truck and obviously anything i do to the truck he has to approve of but its not like i have to deal with all the rules of your normal mega carrier.
