Is there a trick or something to removing this stupid cartridge? I bought one to replace for the life of me, I can't get the one that's on there to unscrew. Heck, it might even be the original one as far as I can tell.
Anyone care to offer any tips or advice to getting this puppy off?![]()

Take an Oil Filter wrench and put on it.
Gears Thanks this. -
We tried pretty much everything except an oil filter wrench. I'll have to see if I can find one that big. I'm thinking it's going to take a #### tow strap!

Actually I did that with mine. Made a makeshift strap wrench with a tow strap and a crowbar. Them buggers are tough to get apart.

You could try just pounding a screwdriver through the side of it and using it to break it loose. I've got a big pair of channellock oil filter pliers that usually do the trick: http://www.mytoolstore.com/chnnlock/oilfilt.html
I just put the new ones on hand tight, those pliers will crush them a little where it grips.LBZ Thanks this. -
He is talking about the air drier, it sits inside a solid housing. You cannot damage the housing.

Its also a good idea to rebuild the purge valve while its apart.

I went into Truck King in Amarillo. Told them that I needed that cartridge changed as well. They did it at no extra charge & used the same oil filter wrench that they used on my oil filter. -

Well I went out to the auto parts store and got a strap wrench that you put a ratchet on once it's on. We'll give it hell, but it'll have to wait until after a bit of football this afternoon.
I'll keep you posted. We did punch a screwdriver through the darn thing yesterday and still can't get it to budge. Even after whacking it a few times with a hammer. I'm even more convinced that it's the original canister.
