So I used a heat gun rather successfully and was able to remove my DOT tape but it left a sticky glue residue.
I'm looking for a product that WILL WORK to dissolve and remove this glue.

Acetone somewhat works but evaporates almost too fast....I will go through gallons and gallons of it.

Any suggestions for something that will work that I can then wipe off the residue?

Goof Off will take off adhesive residue no problem. Use it all the time.

When replacing stickers I use Goof off to take off the adhesive, 409 to take off the Goof Off, water to take of the 409, let dry, and reapply!

    Hanadarko Thanks this.

Considered a torch and a putty knife?

Works great if you don't have any paint or lungs to worry about.

Go to a lettering shop and see if they will give you about a cup of solvent they use just for this purpose called "orange peal . Put it in a coke bottle or something handy. Dampen a shop rag with it and wipe on then wipe off. Will take very little elbow grease. Or, go to auto zone and purchase a 3M brand eraser wheel that will fit in a drill motor or grinder. It won't hurt the paint but will leave residue that you'll have to get off with solvent or warm soapy water Either method will do the trick quick and easy. Eraser wheels are kind of pricey though.

I talked to another trucker here and he mentioned an ERASER WHEEL.
I have heard of these but I thought it was for removing decals...not the residue left behind?

So, with that in mind...whats the better thought here, at least from a financial angle?

Eraser wheels cost about $30 at auto zone, advanced auto, orielly's etc. It's a material like the eraser on a pencil and shaped like a grinding wheel. Made by 3M company. It's soft and will eat away decals or residue without damaging paint. Put it in a 3/8's drill motor or on a half inch grinder and go to work. What it does leave behind will easily wipe away with a solvent soaked rag or soapy warm water. They wear out really fast. I used two of them removing lettering off my truck about a year ago but they do a good job.
