Hey guys, Im curious since I couldnt find anything on google, but has this been done relatively cost effective? I presently have a reefer with a 36" pin and Im wanting to trade it in for 2 others, but they both have 24" pins. I know my fuel mileage will suffer from the bigger gap between the bunk and trailer. What would be a ballpark figure on cost and downtime to relocate a kingpin from 24" to 36"? If I could go to a 42" pin would be even better...

It would most likely be cheaper to install longer 5th wheel rails. I've replaced the king pin and plate on a flatbed before and it ran me $1500. That was about 7 years ago. Call around locally to you and see what the trailer shops around you would charge. They had to pull up the floor on my flatbed to do it.

Well I already have alot of room to go ahead with my 5th wheel, but Im trying to avoid overloading the steer while still maintaining the smallest gap between trailer n bunk...

I had it done as well a few years ago to a flat. They cut the old pin off and drilled and mounted a new one. I don't remember it being that expensive. Location will be determined by your crossmember spacing. Ravens in Dover, Oh done mine.

Might want to do some computing before you go to 42" that's gonna be at least another 1000 or 1500 lbs. on the drives/steers depending on your wheelbase and 5th wheel setting.
