I ran containers for a long time. Last year got into reefer.
The trailer I rent from the company I lease to is a 2011. It was in rough shape when I got it. They are a newer company so they were buying what they could get. The agreement is that I pay for trailer repairs... They pay for the thermoking.
Fine... Except as I said it was in rough shape and shame on me for being new to this game... I should have taken it for my own personal inspection instead of just going with theirs..
I had to replace tires that were already bad when I took the trailer etc. Etc. Etc.
Live and learn.
There are cracks in the floor and a spot or 2 where there are small chunks of it missing.
I don't want to pay thousands for repairs but I've started to have customers mention the floor damage..
Anyone ever try using aluminum welding rods on the cracks? They have a drastically higher psi than the floor itself...
I'm concerned about burning up the insulation under the floor since I would have to heat it to around 750f with a torch to get the rods to melt but it's a much cheaper and easier fix than paying someone today's drastically inflated prices to get it repaired with plates...
Any thoughts? BTW... I'm not a welder and don't have equipment so I wouldn't be able to weld plates to the floor myself...

Weld one area, it seems to crack elsewhere.
I have seen tons of floor repairs. There must be a way they do them. Take that pos trailer back. -
I'm stuck with this boat anchor until prices come down and I can afford to buy my own.
And then even though they should sell this one for scrap... They will probably keep running it and try to make me pay for the repairs... -
Prices are not coming down again, inflation doesn't go away, it gets worse

Maybe @supergreatguy has some ideas if you can weld it or not
supergreatguy and TCF Thank this. -
Once the chip shortage is solved (not sure I believe that's the issue for trailers).... And the mega carriers start buying new equipment it should ease tension in the secondary market and prices should come down from where they are.
There is no way I'm going to pay 60 or 70k for a 10yr old reefer with almost 30k hours on the unit....bzinger Thanks this. -
