I read this a lot that recruiters lie just to get people in the door. If that is really the truth how is that even legal?
Any other job if you are hired at a certain wage you get paid that wage but in this industry it's legal to tell you one thing and deliver another?
So when i start talking to recruiters and the say for example i start out at .34 cpm that's not the truth?
Recruiters all lie?

I did my research before I called. So, I was just calling for a bus ticket.

Many recruiters are third party and don't work for just one company. Trucking companies give a script to the recruiters, so if you ask about XYZ company they just read from the script.I don't really care if the recruiter is off by a couple of cents per mile; it's no big deal in the big picture. I do my own research and maybe talk to a couple of drivers if they're available and if not I just go for it. I never had to worry about paychecks because I run coast to coast and don't get nitpicky about blah, blah freight lanes etc.

It's not so much that they lie, in my experience, but they do leave things out. For example, they may tell you .34 per mile, but they may not tell you that you will only get paid loaded miles. And they may tell you that you can expect, say 2500 miles per week. But what they really mean is that's just an average and you will get whatever you get. They also like to mislead people on home time. My favorite is when they say, you get home on the weekends. But that usually means you just go home for a 34-hour reset and then yout hit the road again.
I always tell people a good way to tell an honest recruiter is to ask about their CSA scores. If they can't give you an immediate, specific answer, and they start stammering and talking in circles, then keep looking. -
I gotta ask, are you referring to the recruiting dept employed by said company or are you referring to a outsourced recruiter that gains a commision from said companies

Outsource recruiter aka 3rd party do most of the lying.
Never had an issue with any recruiter than I knew work for the company.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Only recruiter I ever really dealt with was an Army recruiter. Trucking company recruiters contact me via LinkedIn, Career Builder, Indeed, etc. pretty frequently.. some for driver jobs, some for mechanic positions, but I haven't answered any of them.. most of them are for some ATA-affiliated carrier, so trying to get me to work for them is pissing in the wind on their part.
Back on-topic.... what I did learn from that recruiter (and this probably holds true for a number of trucking recruiters, even if not all of them) is that they didn't actually lie to you... the Devil was in what they didn't tell you. -
I think I posted something like this in another recruiter lies thread. Lets face it truckers lie. Shippers and dock personal lie. Cops lie. Fleet managers and load planners lie. Getting upset because a recruiter lied to you is just wasted energy. I think in the case of recruiters their lies are more like lies of omissions.

I'm really leaning towards signing with Schneider and I think that might have sealed the deal.Kyle G. Thanks this. -
