    Hi all,

My previous employer would send us to a Concentra location where they had a relationship and they paid for everything. I'm between jobs right now and unfortunately for me my DOT medical is going to expire soon and I need to take care of it myself so Sec. of State doesn't revoke CDL. I called the Concentra where they used to send us and it was (if I remember correctly) about $120, which I thought was a little high, especially for someone between jobs.

Also, I know they're required to check whatever they're required to check, but was hoping for a doc. that's laid back and cool and not militant about his/her exam. I've always gotten the two year unrestricted card and don't really have any medical issues, but over the years some docs. were real cool and easy going and others were a real nightmare.

Thanks so much for any help/advice!

My private doc is 150. He also does DOT exams.

Now FAA exams those are in Searcy.

    No Concentra ever.

Docs have gotten mean since the opiate war began 10 years ago. There is alot of uncle sam and state sitting in the corner over their shoulders today. Particularly after 2007 ACA act. My private doc had a laptop in his left hand feeding my answers into it with the right the last time I saw him in 2008. Do you feel suicidal?

No, thats not what I am here for. Are you nuts?

    type type type. Ugh.

It destroyed whatever trust in that room between the two of us.

Check CVS drug store. Some have a medical doc called "minute doc". Used to be reasonable. Also, I recommend a chiropractor over a normal doc.

One more option for the OP is to consider self-certifying intrastate and getting the K on the CDL. Doing this will no longer require a physical. This is a better option if you are going to be taking an extended break. Careful though, the longer you are away the harder it is to get back. Also changing the CDL will require a fee.

There are two "Excepted categories. "Excepted Intrastate" and "Excepted Interstate". The difference?

    For Excepted Intrastate:
You operate in excepted intrastate commerce when you drive a CMV only in intrastate commerce activities which your State of licensure has determined do not require you to meet the State’s medical certification requirements. An example might be driving fro a volunteer Fire Dept.

    For Excepted Interstate:
You operate in excepted interstate commerce when you drive a CMV in interstate commerce only for the following excepted activities:
    • To transport school children and/or school staff between home and school
    • As Federal, State or local government employees
    • To transport human corpses or sick or injured persons
    • Fire truck or rescue vehicle drivers during emergencies and other related activities
    • Primarily in the transportation of propane winter heating fuel when responding to an emergency condition requiring immediate response such as damage to a propane gas system after a storm or flooding
    • In response to a pipeline emergency condition requiring immediate response such as a pipeline leak or rupture
    • In custom harvesting on a farm or to transport farm machinery and supplies used in the custom harvesting operation to and from a farm or to transport custom harvested crops to storage or market
    • Beekeeper in the seasonal transportation of bees
    • Controlled and operated by a farmer, but is not a combination vehicle (power unit and towed unit), and is used to transport agricultural products, farm machinery or farm supplies (no placard-able hazardous materials) to and from a farm and within 150 air-miles of the farm
    • As a private motor carrier of passengers for non-business purposes
    • To transport migrant workers
Anything outside of this you need a valid, current dot physical in order to drive commercially.

Thank you all for the help and good advice. I think I found a private doc close to me that's reasonably priced and not one of those heartless chain/corporate doctors. Thanks again.
