I would imagine only goverment jobs are partly recession proof. Like state hiway workers, trash haulers, etc etc. Still not 100% proof. I don't think anything is.

Trucking isn't recession proof, but some segments, like hauling live animals and food products, are less affected. It seems hauling fuel is a great business as well, but I don't know about as an O/O.

I'm in gas country and the gas haulers are so slow they arn't making any money.

Food will be slow considering the price of fertilizer has gone up like 400% over last year and farmers are not planting because they can't afford the fertalizer. What do you think that's gona do to produce hauling? OR live animals when they can't afford to buy the hay that hay gone up 400% to match the cost to fertalize it.

I think some industries thrive in a recession. In manufacturing, alcohol, soup and anti-depressant companies should do well. As for services, the suicide and crisis prevention, law enforcement, auction, bankruptcy settlement and collections industries would probably be in demand.

I haul flour for making bread. When the rest of you are out of work and in the breadlines, I will still be hauling the flour to make your bread.

Actually, no business is totally recession proof. But in trucking, the closest thing to it is to find a good spot in the food chain and stay there. You may not be in the richest spot, but there is much to say for steady work and people will always have to eat.
