I need a couple of trailer tires and checking around. So far everything seems expensive - no surprise there. Just wanted to compare. The price quotes are for mounting and out the door. Loves 2 Chinese Doublecoin virgin $884 - way too expensive not even an option. 2 Michilen recaps from Loves $670 out the door. Local goodyeear dealer right across the street from where I park 2 Bandags $480 or 2 Goodyear recaps $560 out the door. What kind of prices you guys seeing out there, any recommendations on who's got some deals?
I know Michilen recaps are thought very highly of around here and even by guys I know who have used them. That's what I'd like to get, they do have a good warranty (even though I am not very trusting of any tire warranty) They seem awfully high or maybe just Loves is overpriced. How do Goodyear recaps compare?

I'll let you know what I'm paying for Michelin trailer recaps later today. Last time I was in I think he quoted me $210 on my casings and around $300 without. Can't remember exactly, but they looked good for the money. That's at Snider in Norcross GA. I got one truck going in for one tire that may end up either one used or a matched pair of recaps if they don't have a good used one. Buying at least two for the other truck probably Tuesday so I'll at least get a quote today.
rollin coal Thanks this. -
Farmer City dealer did 8 24.5lps for $2200 with crap casings.

I pulled the trigger on the goodyear recaps. They should be in next week and on my trailer by the end of the week. Now watch all the drivers post up where I can get Michelin and Goodyear caps for $200 or less.. Hahaha, I don't care my deadhead is 2 tenths of a mile for the ones I'm getting..

Friend of mine just bought 8 , .22.5 Michelin drive caps for $180 each with trade unmounted two weeks ago from service tire here in pa
His trades were also caps -
I knew it. A friend of mine was telling me about a place in Nashville with $150 Michelin's as of about a year ago but he never did get back to me with a phone number. I'm not wasting a day going up there. I need these tires on there yesterday I'm sick and tired of two bad ones rattling the cab.

For future reference, Pomp's has 13 or 14 locations in the midwest. This is fleet pricing using our casings but they'll throw on a bandag FCR Miles Edge cap for $107 our cost. I don't know what retail is, but I hope it gives you a point to go from.

Sorry rollin - I had a "dog ate my homework" evening last night. After sitting in traffic almost two hours to meet the truck (wrong side of holiday Friday rush hour), my brain melted and I forgot to ask for a quote. I made it there well after closing and they had just finished mounting a used steer that matched the tandem. Just enough time to pay them and get chased out the gate.
The other truck is getting MT this morning and will be at the location I mentioned for at least two of the Michelin caps Tuesday morning. I'll update when I get that invoice.
DMH: I've had nothing but problems with caps on drives. Mainly due to poor quality casings I've discovered. All the problem tires were ones already on equipment when purchased. My current plan is to try the Michelin caps on trailer wheels. If they work out I may consider drives. I am holding the casings on new tires we're wearing out and will have them capped with trailer tread. -
I bought some caps for one of my trucks last year for $120 each. This is the first time that I have run caps on any truck that I have owned. I purchased new tires from a local distributor for $248 for one trailer. I paid $34 each to have them changed. If I could get good prices on caps, I would continue buying them. So far, so good. However, I am getting good prices on new tires from my local distributor. I still prefer new tires, but I have had good service from the caps on the tractor. I had to replace two of them. I believe we ran over something and cut the sidewall on one. The other tire was a defect and the seller replaced it at no charge. I have a friend who has been running caps for several years on his drives. I believe he has been paying about $200/each.
