What's better for the trailer, decent used tires or recaps? I don't want a new tire right now. Recap is a little more money.

If I had the choice, used.

I don't like recaps, had really really bad things happen with recaps and you will never find them on my trucks or trailers ever.

I always go with used. For a cap to be any good the casing has to be taken care of. You have no idea how many curbs a random recap bought from a tire shop on the road has been over or up against a curb. Even used that could be an issue but I'd rather take the chance on used.

Recaps are fine just not from unknown most likely abused casings. Running over just one curb is abuse. You just can't be curbing the virgin casings and you have to stay on top of air pressure maintenence in order to have zero issues with caps.

I don't care how 'good' they are, if I'm paying for it, it's not going to be a recap.

How do you know if the used tire has been abused?

You don't. I mean, you can look at the sidewalls and see if they have been scraping curbs. But most times in order for the tread depth to match what's already on your truck you just have to take whatever you can get. You might be lucky if they even have a tire that matches your tread depth. And you might even have to take a cap because of that.

    I'm running R11 22.5
I'm going to get the used tire, it's alittle pricy for the used at $225+$38 to mount. I don't like the recap thing anyway. They cost almost as much as a new tire and I don't trust them.
